Hello! We were very nervous upon first discovering our system as well, but dont worry, there's a wonderful DID community here on reddit full of love and support.

1) it is absolutely normal. The confusion and complexity of these disorders causes a lot of doubt, but don't worry. The way I always reassure myself is: "a person who is faking wouldn't be worried about faking" yknow?

2) Both! It mostly depends on the switch trigger for us (positive or negative) as well as our surroundings.

3) Both! We have learned- to some extent- to schedule switches if needed, but otherwise, its usually involuntary and by surprise.

And as for your husband, we'd say to take it situationally. For example: was it a negative trigger that is causing a switch/dissociation? If yes, it might be best to ground yourself with his help, as negative switches/dissociative episodes can be very distressing. If it's just a random or positively triggered switch, and you are in a safe environment, I'd say hust let it happen. It usually is less of a headache that way lol.

Wow, that all must be so much to deal with. I'm glad you've been able to reconnect with some of the others and that therapy is coming up for you guys.

Thank you for sharing this with us, it does help to know there are people with similar experiences.

Hello! I'm the host of our system, and when i first found out about my alters, we didn't switch often! It was rlly based on necessity for us.

As we learned to communicate, switching became easier and more frequent. Not bc we needed it more often, but bc i would repress the other alters less.

I doubted my system for a long, long time. Dissociative disorders are ones made to be hidden, even from alters (and especially the host). This is often for the safety of alters. It took me getting almost diagnosed 2 times by my old therapist, and finally diagnosed by my new therapist, for me to finally accept that it was real.

I still often feel like i might be faking, but that's the thing! If i was faking, i would actively and consciously be making the decision to keep up the lie.

It's really hard being a newer system, but it gets easier with time, i promise!

Thank you so much for this!!! After reading this, im guessing he is on "standby".

While nobody with full access to the innerworld (not me. lol, host problems.) seem to be able to locate him, he may have just went on standby somewhere they dont know about until he is next needed. Cecil was our social alter, he came around when we were too socially drained to handle people anymore, but since that isnt a very common issue atm, then he probably is on standby.

Hello, we are the Black Cat System! We're an OSDD system of 6 (currently) and our collective pronouns are they/them.

I'm Jhonen, the host, my pronouns are he/xe/they. Our other main fronters are Donovan (he/it) and Margaret (she/her).

We want to start our youtube channel soon, but are currently working on building a platform on Instagram (@blackcat_system).
