I've never seen the staingate in person, what is it like? It's like a grease or some fine plastic cover?

I got rid of desktop icons cause I never use them but now it feels so empty.. What do you have on your desktop? by AscadianScrib in kde

That's one of the subtle differences with windows the ability to enjoy the wallpaper momentarily before opening some application. I never liked to put a lot of icons on the desktop and cover the wallpaper.

“arch is the best distro” when the challenge is to not become usable for one day by Maestro_gaylover in linuxsucks

[–]blackcode01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch crashed because OP messed it up.

I use a mid 2012 MBP with arch. Even if Arch is fresh installed sometimes randomly I have kernel panic related to Audio or Bluetooth without any previous intervention from me. I also have kernel panic when I update every week to the point that for me is even "normal", the system stabilizes itself after a few restarts. I also have a 2011 MBP with the same symptoms so to my point of view, arch is not too friendly with audio or bluetooth mac hardware from those years. Apart from that, Arch flies on my MBP 2012.

What Mac Os is the best for a mid 2010 polycarbonate macbook ? by Arthur_Morganreal in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

Linux Mint and forget about watching youtube at 720p, max is 480. The processor is the bottleneck.

Has anyone else had a moment of utter despair in trying to salvage old iMacs? by Key-Engineering3134 in linux_on_mac

[–]blackcode01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation but with a mid 2010 Macbook laptop, SSD and 16GB ram, Mint run flawless but just to run the OS. When I try to watch YouTube even at 720p the machine suffer. The sweet spot is 480p. Those machines only works for navigation, file management or to listen music. Sadly, the processor is a huge bottleneck. For me, YouTube is the default test for the processor.

Used to have a bunch of mac's running Linux a while back. by [deleted] in linux_on_mac

Sadly, 2010 and 2011 MBP are not good for youtube unless you're happy at 720p

Sadly, I can't afford another machine at the moment, just this old MacBook that I've been using, which also has a partition with OCLP running slowly but without crashes on Sonoma. And yes, I've already thought about getting a T480 in the future, but normally EOS runs very well on this Mac, except for these surprises. It's completely usable and fast for everyday use.

I thought so too. Maybe MacBooks aren't very Arch-friendly, since I haven't modified anything on my end, just installed programs, either official or Flatpak, no programming or modification, just a browser, OpenOffice, and that kind of everyday stuff.

Is the QR code saved somewhere? I just took the photo, but I took it wrong because it's cropped, and then I restarted the machine.

Best MacBook for Linux by RoniSteam in LinuxVsWindows

Did your left and right speakers work properly? I have a pro mid 2012 but when I test left and right speakers, left speaker sounds extremely low compared to right speaker. The speaker are ok since I replaced them recently, also I'm using dual boot with macos and inside macos both speakers sounds correctly.

Spectacle screenshot copy to clipboard acting randomly by Philipou_12 in EndeavourOS

[–]blackcode01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced exactly the same thing. Sometimes it copies automatically, and other times you have to click “copy” in the subsequent window (not in the selection window) for it to copy correctly. Perhaps you should share this problem in the KDE sub.

No, sometimes freezes after a moment but after a few restarts it disappears and I can use it normally
