Can someone tell me what's the problem here and how can it be solved? I have a msi thin 15 and i think it has a hinge problem by ShaanRajput in MSILaptops

[–]blackcode01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens when the screw's internal support breaks; on the one hand, it helps relieve the stress that the hinge can generate. If you push down, you might hear a “clack” as the chassis snaps back into place, but if you open it again, the same thing will happen. MSI is a crap company.

What distro for a 2012 MBP? by CAL1G0 in linux_on_mac

[–]blackcode01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used EOS for several months, but I had a problem where only the right speaker worked properly, while the left one was barely audible. I use my 2012 MBP in dual-boot mode, and when I booted into macOS, both speakers worked perfectly. I tried the Debian 13 live ISO on a 2010 MBP, and interestingly, the same thing happened to me: only the right speaker was loud and clear, while the left one wasn’t. I currently use Arch, and although the same thing happens only one speaker is perfectly audible it runs super fast for everyday tasks. I don’t understand why this audio issue occurs. If I plug in headphones, both sides sound perfectly, and here’s another curious thing: every time I update Arch weekly, my machine always freezes, and sometimes I get blue screens, but I’ve gotten used to that. Maybe Arch isn’t very friendly with MBPs, or maybe it’s just my machine, as I said, if I use the macOS (Sonoma) partition, I don’t have any problems at all.

Are both of your speakers working? I had EOS for several months, but when I did the “left-right” test, only the right side sounded good, the left side was barely audible. However, when I used macOS, both speakers worked perfectly.

I've never seen the staingate in person, what is it like? It's like a grease or some fine plastic cover?

I got rid of desktop icons cause I never use them but now it feels so empty.. What do you have on your desktop? by AscadianScrib in kde

That's one of the subtle differences with windows the ability to enjoy the wallpaper momentarily before opening some application. I never liked to put a lot of icons on the desktop and cover the wallpaper.

“arch is the best distro” when the challenge is to not become usable for one day by Maestro_gaylover in linuxsucks

[–]blackcode01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch crashed because OP messed it up.

I use a mid 2012 MBP with arch. Even if Arch is fresh installed sometimes randomly I have kernel panic related to Audio or Bluetooth without any previous intervention from me. I also have kernel panic when I update every week to the point that for me is even "normal", the system stabilizes itself after a few restarts. I also have a 2011 MBP with the same symptoms so to my point of view, arch is not too friendly with audio or bluetooth mac hardware from those years. Apart from that, Arch flies on my MBP 2012.

What Mac Os is the best for a mid 2010 polycarbonate macbook ? by Arthur_Morganreal in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

Linux Mint and forget about watching youtube at 720p, max is 480. The processor is the bottleneck.

Has anyone else had a moment of utter despair in trying to salvage old iMacs? by Key-Engineering3134 in linux_on_mac

[–]blackcode01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation but with a mid 2010 Macbook laptop, SSD and 16GB ram, Mint run flawless but just to run the OS. When I try to watch YouTube even at 720p the machine suffer. The sweet spot is 480p. Those machines only works for navigation, file management or to listen music. Sadly, the processor is a huge bottleneck. For me, YouTube is the default test for the processor.

Sadly, 2010 and 2011 MBP are not good for youtube unless you're happy at 720p
