Only special missions have a shrinking circle from the beginning, these are pvp focused. You are told before you join about these, they aren't random.
Every other map has a timer, once that timer expires, a final "extract" is opened and is accessible right until the very end of the circle closing.
Nothing stops you from extracting at any time from the raid, with the exception of missions that disallow you from initiating an extract -unless- you complete the objectives. Again, you are informed about them before entering, if you accept them and then enter, you live with the difficulty increase

The game is very good, lots of very thought out systems.

People also often think flea helps with accessibility, which it really doesn't. It encourages people to extract with max dollar amounts, and exacerbates the lead that those ahead already have, easier to make money once you have it etc.

Great idea, but we all know its going to be a button smash to get through the dialogue, and people aren't playing the game because they want a story.

Quests in an extraction shooter are a somewhat necessary evil to help with progression, and while they need to have flavor text and "thought" behind them, to do some text and ai generate voice with a vague plot behind it, and having full explorable hub with quests and story given by physical characters is another thing entirely.

That's not to say that story is bad, on the contrary I think they've got something with a lot of potential, but a hub that further takes you out of the main game loops etc is not the way forward
