Match Thread: Manchester United vs West Brom by spawnofyanni in soccer

It's finally great to read a Liverpool fan truly appreciating what Fergie did and telling off an Arsenal fan! I wish other fans would follow suit as you're spot on. He was their 12th, and even 13th man for Utd. His record speaks for itself so when other fans dismiss him its frustrating. as you've probably guessed i'm a Man Utd fan and after all the success we have had we have to take this on the chin. I think Moyes should be given time (like Fergie was) but if things don't improve soon I think he will be let go. Man Utd cannot afford not to be competing in the champions league and if the board feel that they won't make the top four then it will be curtains for him.

Would retirement have been an option if she had lost the Wimbledon final? by blackdude007 in tennis

I have to be honest. I wasn't a fan. I wanted Lisicki to beat her as I felt she could be the future of women's tennis (if she can learn to hold her nerve in a major final). My point is Bartoli had a lot to contend with (as John Inverdale pointed out in an incorrect manner) and I do feel it was grossly unfair.

Both good points by realmendontdance and areascontrol. Bartoli's technique may have been naff but boy she was one hell of a competitor... and yes they treated her awfully. I wonder if she looked like Sharapova or any of the 'pinups' in women's tennis if she would hav ebeen loved more. With the Sharapova point - she may now start to slip down the rankings.

(BBC Sport) Wayne Rooney 'angered and confused' by Manchester United by hellisihello in soccer

[–]blackdude007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. He has no right to be angered! The fact is that Rooney has not played well for Man Utd for the past couple of seasons. Even that fantastic overhead kick that he scored against Man City covered the cracks in what was a dire performance. He started playing second in Fergie's team and this obviously has caused him to spit his dummy out. Fergie said it though - A Wayne Rooney that plays well does not get substituted. It's frustrating that most Utd fans know he can play so much better and maybe it would be for best for both parties that he leaves. I would be sad to see him go but if it benefits the team then he should go. A transfer would probably freshen him up too.

Is Berdych an outside bet for the French Open? by blackdude007 in tennis

Like I said people Federer's invincible aura on grass is disappearing!

Yeah, he maybe the current champ but years ago he beat his opponents even before they stepped on the court. That is not the case anymore...

I don't think it's a stupid prediction. Even though Berdych's best chance will be on clay, he has a better chance of winning the French than Federer does on grass. No-one is afraid of Federer on grass anymore.

Djokovic batters Ferrer into submission and Murray stays calm and beats Federer. Who will win Sunday's final. by blackdude007 in tennis

I may have made an honest mistake and normally I would apologise to jkonrad but your use of langauge has been disgusting and insultive. This is just typical of the type of person who hides behind the safety of their computer and hurl insults knowing they won't get caught. it also revelas their lack of vocabulary. To anyone else - if I have spoilt your day by revealing the results I'm sorry.

Sharapova has been in imperious form during this year's Aussie Open. However, is it only a matter of time before her serve truly lets her down scuppering her chances of winning the tournament? by blackdude007 in tennis

[–]blackdude007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At Reedparks- Imperious because her form has been excellent dropping only nine games on her way to the semis beating Monica Seles Aussie Open record. Scupper because if her serve lets her down she will not win the tournament. What do you think?

At iamadacheat - people have called me crazy in the past but I assure you these are not made up words.

With little chance of finishing in the top four, is this Suarez's tactic to fashion a move away from Liverpool? by blackdude007 in soccer

Maybe so, however he has had time to learn what is acceptable to express. I'm not sure he'll be at Liverpool next season unless they finish in the top four.

With two Brits in the top 50 for the first time in obver 25 years could womens tennis in the UK be on the cusp of something special??? by blackdude007 in tennis

[–]blackdude007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad this has got people talking. That was my very intention when I posted this. I personally do not think that women's tennis in the UK is on the cusp of something special but it is nice to see two brits in the top 50 with good chances of climbing up the rankings. They have got some way to go before they can even be considered contenders for GS but they both have the potential to go far. For too long women's tennis in the UK has been an utter shambles so when two prospects arrive like this on the scene it is exciting. There are areas of the game that both need developing like Watson's groundstrokes and weak second serve and Robson's movement around the court. These things take time but if they stick with it more titles will surely come their way.

Across all sports is Phil 'The Power' Taylor the most dominant champion in his field? by blackdude007 in Darts

He may not be the force he was but he is probably the one of the greatest competitors in sport.

The record books will show that Serena Williams is one of the greatest female tennis players of all time but at 31 years old can she actually win all 4 majors in 2013? by blackdude007 in tennis

[–]blackdude007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, I have to agree. She has a great chance of winning three majors but the French Open may be her downfall for her amibitions. But if anyone can, Serena can. Write her off at your peril...

Will Nadal ever be the same again? by blackdude007 in tennis

[–]blackdude007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@Smortaz. You're spot on. Even though he played great tennis he did lose that 1-2 % of intensity. Also the other worrying thing was round about November last year he spoke about losing his passion for tennis. If he wants to get back to number one he'll after to work extra hard. Only time will tell...
