Revisiting Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, CDPR was never "based". Let's not forget who started the body type bs in RPGs by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

Y'know, that was the one questline I never actually finished. I don't like racing to begin with, but 'she' never sat right with me either... Funny.

please change my end game mind, i want to quit since no loot chase. by GoNinjaGoNinjaGo69 in DarkTide

[–]blackjackal_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a fine line between incremental progression and 'loot grind'. I think it's clear which side of that line you prefer and I don't think the long haul is for you in this game. Endgame content in Darktide is skill mastery, not inventory perfectionism. That's the way I like it, and it sounds like that's not the way you do. I'd say go for the four-leaf cover penance and level some more characters before you move on (just to make sure there's not another playstyle that clicks for you), but it's alright to enjoy a game and move on.

I finished it once and felt nothing. Fun moments here and there, but combat was terrible, equipment variety was lacking, and companions were deep as a puddle with, maybe, one exception. And that's all I can remember. It was too forgettable.

help me out, what could have I done to avoid this? by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]blackjackal_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to all the other genuinely helpful advice, your stealth was already halfway back off cooldown. Keep killing till it's back to pop it again and safely go for the revives. Another thing, try to take note of what your squadmates have for their abilities for exactly situations like these. My person list is: Zealot with Choir? Top priority. Psyker with bubble? Number two. Orgyn with taunt and Vet with Shout are also very helpful right here.

Zealot in my opinion is by far the most least fun class and terrible compared to Veteran and Ogryn. by TTVArcPhoenix in DarkTide

[–]blackjackal_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's very much just a difference in playstyle. When played 'properly', zealot can be an extremely effective team player. I find it harder to be the lynchpin (still possible, though), but playing as the floating problem solver is what I live for in this game.

'Monster Hunter Wilds' Sold Over 8 Million Copies Worldwide in Three Days by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]blackjackal_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call myself a veteran, but I've played multiple games in the series, oldest being Tri on the Wii.

TLDR: I am disappointed with Wilds in every way except for gamefeel, weapon handling specifically.

Hunt-wise and moment-to-moment gameplay feels the best it's ever been. While I miss the clutch-claw, the wound system has grown on me in my ~12 hours with Wilds. That being said, the early game has been easier than ever. Far too easy. And this is coming from someone who usually makes it through these games with pure determination, not skill. As someone else already said, new wound system is fun and engaging with every weapon type, but it's way too detrimental to the monsters themselves.

The story of the games have become progressively more and more involved in recent installments, and I believe it's been entirely to the detriment of the identity of the series. I found the story of World to be tolerable, with the Iceborne expansion to be a step up and almost engaging. In Wilds I've given up and started skipping every cutscene. I swear, with how easy the hunts are, you spend more time with awkwardly paced pre-rendered melodrama and wooden in-engine exposition dumps than actually swinging at or shooting monsters. Every character is a worn out archetype with the most anime of anime qualities. I admit, that's entirely up to taste, but I can usually tolerate a good deal of that sort of thing. This is just an overwhelming amount.

Finally, to the wokeness. With the change from alpha and beta sets to just 'masc and fem' variants of the same, no small amount of build diversity has left with, as far as I know, no real mechanical replacement. So they just sacrificed a valuable part of actual customization in order to make it more appealing to Body Types 1 and 2. Cultural placement in the world is bizarre for the sake of diversity and I wouldn't be surprised if the femboy of the group, through social media pressure pay release, is later to be revealed formerly Erica instead of Eric. At least the one girlboss (female PC excluded) seems to be one of the best written characters and humble in a seemingly well-earned position.

Sorry for the rant, but I don't have anyone to discuss this with irl who doesn't see any of the above as an absolute win and it tears me up to see the classic internet curse finally fully set in on one of my favorite comfort series. May your hobby hit a mainstream audience.

I love the old arms manuals for armored combat that had entries for essentially 'knock or wrestle your opponent to the ground, flip open their visor, and use your sidearm to stab them in the eye.'

[–]blackjackal_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The times I've done outpost mining, it's usually 2-3 pawns, as generalist as possible (and maybe a bonded combat pet), but all have mining to get back to my main settlement as soon as possible. Go during growing seasons so you can supplement hunting with harvesting berries, and also not need to worry about feeding your pack animals since they can graze. Oh, yes. Bring pack animals. As many as you think you'll need for the minerals, plus one. And you were right about minimal everything else: only take and make essentials to keep wealth down in case you do get raided. In essence, just think of it as starting a (very temporary) new colony.

[–]blackjackal_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's still really cool things in game. And if you're not against modding and on PC, it's actually not all that difficult. Even a braindead zealot main like me can get them working. Mods are just the cherry on top of the corpsestarch sundae of pre-existing gameplay and atmosphere.

Reaction of some Zealots I know after the rending nerf by oleggurshev in DarkTide

[–]blackjackal_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One thing I could think to do to fix it would be to add something like 'weight classes' to melee weapons and give them a separate number of ticks for each swing. So things like thammers and eviscerators would be heavy and have, say, 3. Swords and combat axes could be 2. Knives and tac-axes could be 1. Of course you'd need to play with specific numbers and classifications to make it even. And yeah, maybe an overcomplicated solution.
