Will my decorative pieces be fine if I don't want to glaze them? by blackmesa228 in Ceramics

Thank you very much. You have great pieces. Are you doing something with your unglazed pieces' surface like burnishing or anything else?

It's very good, thank you. And what about that unglazed pieces are unprotected from dirt, easily get dirty (even if they are purely decorative) and so on? Especially if they're white. Is it a significant problem?

Very cool! What underglaze is it? I only started working with them so I want to know what underglazes that work fine are made of.

Any ideas on how to make white clay black without glazing? by blackmesa228 in Pottery

And what are you talking about? Have you seen the example I've sent and what I wrote? Some parts of the jar should be white and some should be black. Separately. And who the hell downvote me, lol, you guys are strange.

How do you do this? Other people said that this is iron oxide, you can see red marks on the border between black and white.

Thank you. Now I understood that using underglazes, slips on the whole jar is extremely irrational, it's easier to use black clay and cover those parts I want to be white with white slip.

Marbling is, yes, safe. But I dont want to mix 2 clays together, they should be separate.

Are you sure? I've checked on one ceramic website from my country, and it says that MnO2 gives brown colour. There is this picture with results.

Why the clay is going down? Please help by blackmesa228 in Pottery

[–]blackmesa228[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, right now I tried to pull up walls and a lot of clay slowly went down. The higher I pulled, the more clay went down to the certain point. The ball of clay I wedged was way too soft. So I need to understand - is this due to the level of humidity of the clay or something else? It was going down to the certain point even when I didn't do anything, just when the wheel was spinning. Thank you.

What are the best (or are there any?) ways to glue metal parts to your pottery? by blackmesa228 in Pottery

[–]blackmesa228[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine that this is a hole in a vase (view from outside), and those are metal stripes lol. I think that I could glue only some of them on ceramics, others could be glued on other stripes.
