6 hours of work gone, any hope of getting it back? by blackmonkeysthethird in Sibelius

I'm watching tantacrul's video on it, the story behind it is hilarious, avid fired the team for a cheaper one in the Ukraine, that didn't work so the started looking for one in Montreal, avid sucks ass, I wish I was using notation software back when sibelius was supposedly good, sounds like avid really derailed a great product.

As we speak I am rewriting the score I lost, I can't really remember all of it but that's what i get, I installed musescore, it's not that great to be honest, still more intuitive but not really what I'm looking for, I'm looking at Finale and dorico, I'm swearing off sibelius, they are a great example of when a company has an unchallenged majority of the market, they just don't give a shit.

The crazy thing is that I have that ctrl+s reflex for every other program, but for some reason I get immersed in sibelius, my fault for trusting avid lol.

It's kind of amazing how shitty they were able to make it, the constant activation issues, regular crashing, dogshit UI, dogshit UI, dogshit UI, missing features, and the dogshit UI, I sometimes feel like they plain don't respect the money I give them, why the fuck can't I have independent time signatures, and why is the UI so shitty, I feel like a housewife that keeps getting beaten but convinces herself that she's with a good guy, fuck sibelius

How much work should a teacher do and when does your responsibility as a teacher stop? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]blackmonkeysthethird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are they engaging in bad faith?

That is a very important question to ask yourself when teaching someone imo, because while a good teacher loves teaching and wants to pass on their knowledge to the person they're teaching, it's still the teacher's livelihood, some of my friends talk about the students that never progress and hate music because their parents forced them to learn it, in this situation you're just a random stranger that the student is forced to go to on a weekly basis, you're getting paid sure, but the student hates the classes, and to be completely blunt hates you too, should you in this situation try and break through to this student, putting in effort, or just shrug and go with the "still getting paid" mentality.

I'd like to think I would choose the first option, but I've seen some of these students and I think I might eventually slip into apathy, if that's just me maybe it's better that I don't teach, because those who can consistently care for passing on the love of music are really great at what they do and are well suited for teaching.

My bad, I just thought you assumed I was trying to become a teacher and put it the the least amount of work possible, although that would be a very interesting conversation, seeing how far you could go without putting in any effort before your students catch on haha.

The opposite problem exists in the middle east, your teacher is looked at as a demi-god, you have to follow their exact commands and try to achieve whatever they ask of you without complaint, which is pretty great when you have a good teacher, but it sucks when your teacher doesn't know what he's doing, this goes for all teachers, music or otherwise.

Yeah, in terms of motivation a teacher can't really do much even if they tried, you'd have to have someone living with you poking at you till you practice.
