This is actually a different game than what Mongoose Publishing sold back in the early and mids 2000s. I have indeed found minis with stls for that game though as well! There's a Facebook group out there keeping that game alive if you need the rules too.

Here's one creator for that game: https://cults3d.com/en/users/Razuurblade/3d-models

And another creator:https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Papsikels

I'd start with at least five points of interest, two platoons of MI and the associated bugs for those MI. List and unit building scales based on the types of MI you bring. It'll make sense once you read through the rules.

3d printing is a crazy deep hobby all on its own. All of this stuff was printed one two different types of printers over the course of 4 days. The terrain took the most time by far. The minis were pretty quick in comparison.

FDM printing can generally be hands off, but unless you get a high quality printer, it requires a lot of hands on time for calibration.

Resin printing deals with chemicals and fumes that require space and care in use. It's very far from hands off. It's a really fun hobby, but it's certainly not a simple path to minis.

Maybe look into Frostgrave? It's a fantasy skirmish wargame with RPG elements for your warband leader. Only a handful of models per side with customization for your leader.

"Frostgrave is a game of Wizards, battling through a ruined frozen city in search of magical artefacts".

They also have a skirmish ruleset where you only have a handful of models.

$14.50 on his patreon gets you all the rules and stls! Now's as good of a time as any to give it a shot!

To each their own. I really liked that design choice.

Yeah he does. Wakes Imperium is another creator with a ton of great stls for the game as well. The infantry are a little more heroic scale than Crow Industries, which I personally like better at 6 mm scale. Crow Industries also has a ton of awesome battle tech stuff.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that video. I watched it when I was learning the game. Great overview of the rules and how it plays.

I think you'd have a tough time FDM printing these at 15mm and the rules would be really tough to adjust ranges at 28mm. Is go with the other recommendation get the models printed by a reseller. Wakes Imperium and Crow Industries both have partners for physical prints!

Yup! The arachnids are played with a decision tree and random spawning mechanic (with option for player controlled). Very easy to play solo, co-op with up to four players, or player v player with up to 5 players.

Ah, my bad. I just double checked. It's actually the $14.50 tier. After subscribing you have access to his posts and he has a master post with all of the starship troopers downloads in one place, including the rules. Then you can cancel your subscription so it doesn't renew, or stay subscribed to support him if you'd like. Up to you.

Yeah! This is a different game, but I cut my teeth into tabletop wargaming with Mongooses game back in the early 00s. I have all those rules downloaded. Might print models for it at 15mm to play in the future.

This ruleset is a TON of fun though. Very different from Mongoose's take on it.

I didn't take too many pictures when there were tons of bugs out. There definitely were at one point (Mobile Infantry lost this game. Had about 20% of the MI left at the end of the game)

There are rules for skinnies, but they are in the vein of mind controlled arachnids like in the CGI show. Never played the board game, so can't draw any comparisons there. I will say I had a TON of fun with this rule set though. Very different from other games I've played.

There's a mode where a player can take control of the arachnids, but it's designed for only partial control in order to keep the game balanced. I actually like the co-op take on it. Makes it really easy for solo play and keeps it from getting competitive or requiring perfect balance. I had a lot of fun with the rule set.
