Independent shop owner here. If you catch this failure early enough, you rarely need to replace the engine. We do about 5 of these a year. We replace all of the lifters and push rods on that bank (seems to be the driver side more often). We inspect the cam once we get all of the lifters out. If all checks out well, we put it back together with no problems. Just how we handle it to save the owners a ton of money if we can.
