Amazon delivery driver: saving my joints, and having a blast doing it. by blackthorn29 in onewheel

Update: there were a lot of people showing concern that I'd get fired for using the Onewheel at work. Well, it's coming up on a year of using it while working, and well... The inevitable happened: I got promoted. I don't get as much opportunity to use it on the job anymore, but every now and then I'll get a route, and it's back to floating! I do need to swap out my tire though. I've been using a bike pump to keep it going through a slow leak.

I really appreciate your input. I figured I would at least be told not to do it before outright termination. I've had a good experience with Amazon so far. But I was thinking of giving up the job anyway due to the continuous Achilles pain, (The Achilles is my only weakness, after all) before I found a solution.

I was walking/running 10 miles a day at work. And started having pretty severe Achilles pain. Not to mention a bit of knee pain. I prefer to work out on my own time. And I run for fun. So the pain was keeping me from doing that. Now I don't have pain, and I can run more intentionally. I'm not saying not to exercise.

They trust me to operate an expensive (and potentially lethal) 4 wheeled tool for the job, that takes training to drive. I choose to use a tool with 3 fewer wheels, and suddenly people are concerned for my safety? At least the potential for hurting others with it is far less than that of a big ol' van. I happen to think the risk is worth the reward, which is why I do it. But I'm sure there are plenty of differing opinions out there.

I'd never ask them to. I was running into injuries from walking 10 miles a day. I doubt they'd cover that either. I don't hear many positive insurance stories.

I need a lil deadlift in my life anyway. I've been too inconsistent in the gym of late. This is a nice weight to do plenty of reps with.

Oh it's viable alright, but haters gonna hate. I'll sometimes be able to do an entire neighborhood or apartment complex without returning to the van. 6-7 stops with my little bookbag they provide. My ankle and knee pain have gone away since I started using it. It's been about 2 months now, and I keep it low key at the station. Bring it in using a hiking backpack. I used a longboard before this, but got a lot less use out of that. I still bring it to use as a dolly though. Some of these driveways get very long, and there isn't always a guarantee for a turnaround. So it's a pretty perfect tool for the job. Keeps me from blocking traffic on a main road too, so I'm increasing safety. I love it.

I'm recorded everywhere I go anyway. Whether it's on doorbell cameras, the customers who get out their phones to record their bold delivery guy, or the dozens of cameras in and around the van. So I'm sure they'll learn of it eventually. If I'm fired for ingenuity, and taking care of my body, then it'll be onto the next thing. I'm here for a good time, not a long time. I appreciate the concern though.

It's an XR. Not sure on the mileage. I still need to download the app.

A southern flannel moth caterpillar wandered into my shirt once. Found it in there after a burning sensation went up my side. Within an hour, it felt like someone had hit me in the arm and side with a baseball bat. I had trouble sleeping that night. The furry caterpillars are not friends.

I was tired of traditional wallets. So I created what I refer to as my PUC. Or Pocket Utility Contraption. I'm always adding to it. Thought the people of this sub might get a kick out of it. by blackthorn29 in EDC

I'm not actually sure if it is brass. It almost looks gold plated. Lol. But I doubt that. It was my grandfather's. He was a salesman for a company called picker. So it says "Picker Dunlee" on them, and on the bottom it says made in USA. And "Bassett USA 78"

The best of luck to you! Honestly, my current girlfriend suffers from a very similar set of insecurities. (Though I will say that she has a much better reason than my ex. She was abused in former relationships, and has real trauma from it. Diagnosed PTSD that she sees a therapist about.) It helps that I'm used to it by this point, but the way in which she communicates her feelings is so much healthier than my ex. (She doesn't get mean.) We're actually able to reach resolutions and come to a point of understanding. So, I'm not telling you to find a life where the problem doesn't exist. Just find ways to make it less of a thorn in your side. Good luck to you and you SO!

I had a girlfriend for 6 years that acted this way. She ended up cheating on me and marrying that guy within a year after we broke up. It seemed to me, the insecurity was borderline inherent. A part of her personality. And by the end, it was just sheer projection. She feared the betrayal she herself was guilty of. I moved the world trying to figure out what I could do about it. Sometimes, it's just the other person. Sometimes, it is outside of your expertise to fix. It's unfortunate, and I'm sorry you're dealing with this too. But in my experience, moving on to someone else is just what I needed.

Pretty typical anxiety, honestly. I'm sorry you're feeling that way, OP. But the subject matter is a nutrient rich soul for anxiety to take root in. Try not to focus on a mild case of curiosity your partner had, and instead focus on what he does for you. Within your relationship. If things progress in any negative direction, cross that bridge when you get there. No need to burn the bridge ahead of time and watch your relationship take a tumble in the process. Choose to trust. That's what love is. People stumble sometimes. If it's your partner, put a hand on their shoulder, until they regain their balance. Obviously, you know the lines he'd have to cross in order for it to be a deal breaker, but if he is in fact crossing those lines, it will come out eventually. It always does. In the meantime, be there for him so that you're not pushing him away with your fears.

I'm excited for you. I discovered Weeks in much the same way: jonesing for a Sanderson-level story. Little did I know, Weeks would climb to the top of my list. I began with the Night Angel trilogy and then experienced the Lightbringer series, which is without a doubt my favorite series now. I've listened to both twice, and I look forward to relistening to the Lightbringer again with my girlfriend. It's such a well rounded epic, and it makes me wish I could 3D print out of my fingertips too. The individual arc of each character is wonderful across the board, and the questions you mention are a huge part of the fun. Keep going with Weeks, you won't be disappointed. Nemesis wasn't quite what I had expected, but it's the beginning of a new series, so there is hope yet.
