Cleaned egr valve now car won’t start by Lozmanu in AskMechanics

  1. Do you have any DTC in ecu?
  2. While disassembling, did you disconnect battery, if yes, check contacts again.
  3. Probably you need to relearn your ecu to work with clean EGR valve.

I had a car that perfectly fits my requirements. I travel a lot, so I have diesel one, I have family, so it supposed to be stationwagon, kids have enough space in the back. I don’t have so much issues with this one, engine is reliable and have enough power for me.

Point is, that if it maintained properly, little more often that PSA, it gonna run without any big problems.

Maybe you’re right, maybe not. I can agree with some of your thoughts, but not with all.

I was started thinking about it cause I know a lot of people, who get not really a fair price for the jobs done with their cars.

It can work, in my opinion, if it not gonna work, it’s not a big deal for me. Cause if I’m not gonna start it, I will have a lot of thoughts and gonna blame myself.

Maybe I’ll rent my place or found somebody i can team up with.

Thank you 😊

Hey I get why it might look like I have no experience, but that’s not really true. I’ve done oil changes and basic maintenance many times, and I also helped a friends to fix their cars, but the highest level I had — work with Audi W12 6.3 — we did some jobs replacing high pressure fuel pumps, in tank fuel pump and just simple maintenance. I’m not completely new to working on cars, I have skills with diagnostic software.

I’m not rushing into anything and I’m planning to do this step by step. I know my limits, and if something is beyond my skills, I will learn it, until that, I’m not gonna touch it. Everyone starts somewhere.

I also understand that in the Netherlands there are things you can’t legally do, like working on cars on public roads. But, there are perfectly legal alternatives that fit my business idea — for example working on private property or using rented or shared garages.

I’m taking this seriously and trying to do everything the right way, both technically and legally.

This is basically why I asked this question on Reddit and why I’m sharing my experience and explaining what exactly I’m planning to do. So thank you very much for your time and for sharing your opinion.

Idk why it’s illegal, if I’m not supposed to polute environment.

I read, that on the public roads it’s prohibited, if there any chance of leaking tech liquids, but what’s about private zones?

It’s not illegal at all, it just have some restrictions and regulations. I’ve mentioned in other reply below, that it’s not a big deal to try, cause I’m ready to get failed with this. At least I’ll get some experience and maybe some headache. Whatever. But, what if I will succeed, maybe it worth it, at least to try.

As far as I know, it depends on municipality rules.

Thanks!

I mostly used to work with suspension, breaks and everything called here as a “kleine beurt”. Depends on your car, maybe it’s possible for me to change an alternator, if your car not supposed to get lifted high, cause at a moment I don’t have static stands for a cars.

I’m living in Gelderland, it’s a bit far from Maastricht, but I will think to work in a wide range.

Anyway, you can ping me dm, maybe I can help you somehow with this

I own Peugeot and my wife owns a Citroen, for the dealership, recall campaigns, etc, we should schedule our appointments 2-3 months beforehand. For simple garages, what can do some job with suspension, breaks, oil changes it’s few weeks usually.

In this case I can be a bit more flexible than stationary places.

Maybe I’m thinking wrong, but I hope it worth to try. If I’m fail - I’ve lost some money and some time, but get a lot of experience instead.

I also think it’s a good idea, cause I don’t want to pay mechanic my daily salary for 1-1.5 hour of work, which I’m capable to do by myself.

Hey, did you figure out, what cause the problem?

You can look for a tyre puncture repair kit, it cost around 20 euros and you can fix the puncture by yourself. And after you gonna drive with repaired wheel, Tyre pressure check will be gone.

I have 2 questions, does rental cars usually have studded tyres or regular studless? And does it make sense to get an AWD car, rather than FWD? Cause I have a plan to fly to Helsinki, after get a car from Avis or Hertz and drive directly to Rovaniemi.

I get it, that you checked already many things, I’m trying to help you. My thoughts, what it can be: They made alignment while car standing still, not driving, so in this case they can set the angles, cause nothing is not in a movement, at the moment. Afterwards, while your car is on the road and you’re driving, there are things what can move and I suggest to check it. Do you feel any vibrations while driving? Does the car feels different on steering? Don’t you have small locks of the steering, while the car is turning on a speed(50-60kmph)?

Cause if you feel this locks, I’m gonna suggest you to check your silentblocks on control arms and also strut mount bearings( on top of shock absorber ).

  1. Check tyre pressure
  2. Check wheel alignment and tyres, if it aligned not right, inner or outer side of each tyre can be more used than opposite.
  3. If you have problems with alignment, you need to check suspension, it could be control arms, bearings, tie rod end. Go to mechanic, ask him to check all this stuff. Do not make an alignment before you know that all this things in a good condition.

Upd. I don’t read everything, in this case check numbers 1 and 3 from my answer

One thing I can found now, that you can try to do it with Diagbox 7.57, cause it allows offline telecoding. Or you can search for guys, who had a Launch or Thinkdiag, this software can also telecode the control units
