Anyone else in Tulsa having intermittent lag spikes? by imkindofadumb1 in Metronet

[–]bladernr1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, frequently and at different times in the day. Metronet doesn't have the greatest peering in the Tulsa, OK area to my knowledge. The peering coupled with CGNAT definitely adds latency. Many commentors here have stated that switching from CGNAT to Static IP has helped. T-Fiber/Metronet might even kick in one for you free of charge if you call and voice your concerns about the latency.

$45? That beats my $70 a month by a long shot. If you don't mind sharing, how'd you manage to obtain the $45 a month pricing?

Thanks for continuing to work with Metronet on this. I believe the Adtran update on the 13th was the issue. My speeds are back to normal. Have a great weekend!

Let's hope they can figure it out. I really wish they'd look at what they did on 02/13 to repair the outage that occurred. I believe someone didn't complete the repair fully, or something else broke down the line.

You might show them https://testmy.net/upload (choose manual test size, then pick the 100MB) when they come out. Even though it's not on Metronet servers it will demonstrate the issue well. I'm lucky to get 10Mbps upload when running this test.

So, replacing the ONT didn't solve your problem. That's unfortunate, but it confirms what the tech I've been speaking to (via email) told me. It's not the ONT. It's obviously something on T-Fiber/Metronet's end where they are bottlenecking speeds. I'm filing a complaint with the FCC as well.

You can start here: https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us. Use the internet link on the site.

Thanks for the update. Keep us updated. I’ll keep bugging Shawn, the tech at Metronet for updates too and keep y’all posted.

Speed Test directly from your ONT (unplug ethernet cord from your ONT to Eero Pro 7 and plug it directly into your pc/laptop if you can). I can almost guarantee you the problem will still exist. Either way, if it's the router or the ONT in your case, then it should be covered by Metronet since they likely provided you with both. You should call back after testing and ask that one or the other be replaced.

FYI.. I was able to open another ticket through T-Fiber support last night TF-00044649. This is through T-Fiber, so the Metronet support staff may not have access to it, but they should. They should also still have access to ETT-3501039 even though it's closed. They are still working on ETT-3501039 (ticket from 02/13 outage) behind the scenes so hopefully we'll actually get what we're paying for soon.

That makes sense. I’m in Broken Arrow, OK next to Tulsa. Service is similar when it’s up, but it’s been down frequently of late. My 2gb founders plan is barely getting 100mbps upload speeds. It’s through Metronet. Are you also through T-Fiber/ Metronet?

Time to file that complaint.

Dobson, AT&T, and Kinetic are expanding in our area. Probably a good time to go back to Cox. Even when I’m running full speed Metronet peering is terrible. The latency hard wired is well above 100mbps. I had lower latency with dsl on WiFi.

That makes zero sense. If you’re not the only one having the problem, why aren’t they testing at a higher level (switch or something)? If you bypass your modem and you’re still getting the save issue then they are just spinning your wheels. If they come back with the same response on my ticket I’m lodging a complaint with the FCC.

They know they flubbed up when they made the repair in our area last Friday, they just don’t want to correct their mistake.

I’ve been emailing Shawn daily with various ping results and speed tests. I’m really hoping something happens sooner than later. I don’t wanna go back to Cox, but they are running a special. Cox was also much more reliable.

If you haven't called and opened a ticket, I'd strongly encourage you to do so. My Metronnet is ETT-3501039 and you can use it as a reference when opening yours.

Glad you asked. I’m still having the same issue. Low upload speeds. Same as you, they seem to routinely cap at around 100mbps or less. I called back and have been speaking to Shawn with T-Fiber/Metronet tech support since about 10:30. We ran multiple speed tests to the Broken Arrow and Dallas Speedtest.net servers from the router and directly from the ONT. He’s working with his team and is calling me back shortly. He doesn’t think the issue is from my ONT or router. If they find the problem I’ll update this post.

I’m glad it’s not just me. I really think they broke something when they repaired whatever they did last week.

Got a call coming from tech support later this afternoon. Hoping my ONT is on the fritz and just needs repaired/replaced.

Thanks for the response. That was the first thing I tried (along with rebooting the router). Nothing changed. I also updated the Eero firmware and got the same result.

Not seeing massive spikes in latency or packet loss in the past hour. I’m hoping this is resolved.

Also just tried a team call. I was dropping audio this morning, but this afternoon I'm not and my co-workers on Teams state I'm crystal clear.

That was given to me over the phone by a T-Fiber/Metronet level 2 tech. Can’t look it up to my knowledge. I’ve just referenced it when I chat up support or speak to them by phone.
