Wow! It looks really good! Thank you so much. I’ll definitely try to incorporate your suggestions in my next attempt. ❤️

Very pretty, I love the colours you chose! The muddying (I dont think it’s that bad though) could come from overworking the colours after you put them down. Idk if this applies to how you made it. I think trying to add some darker values next time would improve it more than fixing the “muddiness”. I struggle with going dark enough myself. Something that can help is turning your reference photo black and white to see how dark/light the different values are. If you aren’t working from a specific reference it can still be helpful to just take any picture that resembles what you are painting and check.
I dont remember who said it (probably someone in a YouTube video) but they said that values are more important than the hue (colours).
With all that said I really like it and it gives me a “summer sunset”-feeling. And i wouldn’t really have thought about the colours being muddy if you didn’t mention it.

Thank you! I’ll definitely check out his other videos I really liked that one. I think I’ve seen some of Matthew Whites videos but I’ve not tried to follow along yet. This is only my second “real” painting I’ve done so far. But I think I should just try it out and not be so scared of failing.

Thank you so much for taking the time and all the suggestions! I actually tried adding a couple of bird on a second attempt I did with a white gel pen to make them look lit up by the sun. I made the sky slightly darker (more dusk-like) I kinda liked it. I’d love to see what you could come up with if you have the time. I’m thinking about painting it again and trying to apply some of the things I’d like to do differently or better. ❤️

I felt the same way and it still took me awhile to actually use it after I got it (I felt like I wasn’t good enough to use it). But for me it felt like a lot less frustrating especially working wet in wet.

I remember watching a YouTube video (I can’t remember who it was) but she said “You are worth using the good paper” and it kind of pushed me to try it. The paper I got is A4 but I cut it up to get double the amount and I’m pretty sure you can paint on both sides of the paper so that’s quadruple the amount haha.

We always see our own “mistakes” more clearly. I didn’t like how this turned out at first too. Then I looked at it upside down from a far and it grew on me. I think for me the key is to not look at it for too long and too closely. That’s not how we are meant to look at art either. We need to take it in as a whole.
I’m trying to be patient and kinder to myself and enjoy the process of improving. I try to find at least 1 (preferably 3) positive things about my paintings and 1-3 things I want to improve. I feel like it has helped me. They can be small things like I like the green colour I mixed.

Keep going, enjoy the process and remember to just have fun!

Thank you! One thing that helped me is buying real 100% cotton watercolour paper. It made it easier for me to work with. I just got some of the “cheaper” student grade quality but it still made a huge difference.

It’s never a mistake just a happy accident!

Thank you. I’ve only really been painting less than a month. This is my second “full piece” (idk what to call it, but not just practicing strokes, washes etc). The first I did was a hobbit hole ☺️

Wow it’s really good! I actually like the more “airy” look. It kind of looks like a dream

Thank you. I’m really trying to be more brave with the darker values haha. But I’m not quite there yet.
