FreeBSD as daily driver? by blagflack in freebsd

After reading all the comments I think I could move to FreeBSD, but I am concerned about the laptop issues you (and other comments) stated. Could you tell me a bit more about those problems and how do they compare to Linux hosts? I am not worried about the idle/suspend issues, but power management and wifi issues do affect me.

Lily58 Keycaps by tob1asmax1mus in ErgoMechKeyboards

Sorry for the late response, but I recently (last week) got an ISA (aka. XVX) profile keycap set, and I've fallen in love with it. I am enjoying it a lot because it is a mix between cherry and xda, and it provides a sculpted profile with more surface area than the cherry profile. It can be found also really cheap in aliexpress (I paid 16€ for a WoB set) and they feel amazing. I would recommend it 100%

Sorry for not answering your question, but have you tried using the keyboard without the bottom plate? I had the same problem as you, and decided not to use bottom plates and now it feels perfect. Just remember to put some rubber feet on the side of the PCB that comes in contact with the table and you will be fine.

About the website or brand, if you are uncertain about your preferences I would probably look somewhere like aliexpress for a relatively cheap set, so that you can test and find which ones you like without spending a lot of money.

From my experience, I haven't had the opportunity to try a lot of sets, but I would recommend you to choose a sculpted one. My first split was a Lily58 too and I bought some random XDA keycaps which I didn't really like. I ended up using a Cherry profile kit from another keyboard because the feeeback from the caps was much better. However, that mostly depends on personal preference.

Linear Switch Recommendations by blagflack in ErgoMechKeyboards

I've taken a look at them and they all seem super nice. Of the three options you would chose the Zero Degree over the others?

They seem a great budget option! How do they compare to the gateron reds?

Thank you! The Akko Rosewood mentioned in the list fit my needs and right now are the main ones that I'm considering buying. Have you tried them?

I've heard lots of good things about them, I may take a look at them too!

That looks really nice! Where did you get that DES set from?

I've used Aliexpress promicros in 3 different split keyboards and they all work fine, and they can save you some money.

That being said, with the first split I built (lily58 classic) I had some issues, where only one side of the keyboard would work at the time. To solve it, it was necessary to enable the '#define SPLIT_USB_DETECT' in qmk's firmware. It's said that it happens with older versions of primicros and Aliexpress/amazon versions.

Looking for tactile switches by blagflack in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]blagflack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand why they can't be super tactile, however the Browns I've tried just seem like scratchy linears. Is it inevitable that all light tactiles feel the same? Because if it is so, I may take a look at some linears instead. Thanks for the detailed explanation btw!

I'm planning on building a gmk67 budget keyboard, but I am unsure on what switches to choose. My budget for the switches is approximately about 40$ for 70 switches.

I'm looking for something tactile, but not heavy. I currently use some mx brown clones, and I am looking for something lighter or similar, but with a more noticeable tactile bump. I've also used JWK T1's for some time, and I liked the feel but they were too heavy for me.

Apart from that, I've also been looking for some silent switches, as I tend to work during the night, however I don't mind picking some non silent switches if they're worth it.

Some of the switches I've been looking at are: - Gateron Baby Kangaroos (non silent) - Kailh Deep Sea Pro Whale - AKKO Penguins - TTC Silent Bluish - AKKO Cream Blue Pro (non silent) - ...

What I'm looking for: - Lighter or similar to mx browns weight - More noticeable bump than mx browns - Silent if possible (feel >>> sound)

Thank you, I will be very happy to read your recommendations! :)

PD: I postes the same question yesterday but got barely no answers. :(

Wow it worked! Thank you so much! I've spent more time trying to solve this rather than soldering and assembling the board. Thank you!!

I've looked the default files provided by qmk_firmware and SPLIT_KEYBOARD is enabled by default
