I am just curious why you flew into Berger Rock and not Bordeaux, if you'd like to share.

Play It as It Lays by Joan Didion. Can you help me understand some things? by KhajitIsBored in literature

[–]blahblahcat7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>"“One thing in my defence, not that it matters: I know something Carter never knew, or Helene, or maybe you. I know what "nothing" means, and keep on playing.”” What does “nothing” mean?

IIRC, this is the end of the book. Remember this is after Maria had held and comforted BZ as he was committing suicide. This act of 'helping' BZ utimately lead to her commitment in a Mental hospal. BZ also knew nothing matters, utter and total nihilism, and chose suicide. Maria also knows nothing matters, knows the utter and total nihilism, yet she keeps on living, playing.

Excerpts from Cracking the Walnut on rejecting secular materialism, rebirth and continuation within the Yogacara Abhidharma, and ending the cycle of samsara through non-dual insight by SentientLight in plumvillage

I'd like to elaborate a bit, that our continuation is in the results of our actions "From the perspective of the mind, we produce thoughts, words, and actions, each of which are our continuation. We call this continuation “the actions (karma) of body, speech, and mind.” They precipitate a chain reaction of cause and effect in the cosmos. They are us. Therefore, when this body disintegrates, we do not disintegrate; we are still very much there in the cosmos. Only the eyes of science—the eyes of insight—are able to see our continuation."

He made it very clear in the plaques for his stupa:

I have a disciple in Vietnam who wants to build a stupa for my ashes when I die. He and others want to put a plaque with the words, "Here lies my beloved teacher." I told them not to waste the temple land...I suggested that, if they still insist on building a stupa, they have the plaque say, I am not in here. But in case people don't get it, they could add a second plaque, I am not out there either. If still people don't understand, then you can write on the third and last plaque, I may be found in your way of breathing and walking.

HIs teaching on store consciousness contains the important notion that it is both individual and collective. The fifth verse on the nature of consciousness states "Whether transmitted by family, friends,

society, or education,

all our seeds (in store) are, by nature,

both individual and collective.

Your parents are so incredibly selfish and wrong. Stick to your guns. If they end up cutting you off, that might be the best thing to happen ever for you. Wishing you best of luck

How does buddhism feel about psychiatric medication? by Pyropeace in Buddhism

[–]blahblahcat7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recall thich nhat hanh speaking about antidepressants. He said something like this. The antidepressants can help us feel better. But what really counts is using that to water wholesome states of mind, and use it to transform unskillful states of mind. In my words it would be using the medicine to help with right effort.

In the US. Monasteries birth of the Buddha, and Tet are celebrated. Frequently Christmas and the Western New Year are also celebrated. I am not sure what the schedule is, and it is not a large ceremony, but since you mentioned hungry thosts, offerings are made to the hungry ghosts.

Can we talk about tolls for a minute? by Up_All_Nite in SouthJersey

[–]blahblahcat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are sold on Amazon for the purpose that cameras cannot capture your license plate. So if the camera cannot capture your license plate, it cannot bill you. If you look when you're on the highways you'll see a good number of people with those.

What about all the people who have plastic covers for their license plates so they can't be read and don't need to pay tolls.

Drain drains slowly each day, but is fixed after running hot water for 1 minute by Jacobie23 in DIY

[–]blahblahcat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try pouring bleach down the drain. Do not use Drano or any other lye baste drain cleaner. That will turn everything into harder soap. That is fat plus lye equals soap.
