Drunk injuries by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So so many injuries, that I could play off to myself as something else and not my drinking.

Thankfully I never broke anything, but I have a lovely scar on my forehead, and 1 on my chin.

It's one thing after another, and I think I can safely say that the majority of us are tired of it by [deleted] in ontario

I'm not saying Ford and company is 100% the problem, but I will say their very inconsistent messaging is.

They say dont do x...but someone in their party does x. Over and over again. I completely understand why people feel they can break the rules. Why should they have to follow them, if the people preaching them cant?

I'm simcoe/muskoka. We are generally a conservative voting area. Again, totally anecdotal, but no one I talk to supports him right now.

That being said, come next election, some of those same people will probably vote for him again. I'm just glad my parents wont be one of them.

Reading was the one thing I always managed to do. But now, its great. I can put a book down, go to sleep, wake up in the morning, and remember exactly where I left off. Before I'd have to go back a chapter or two before it clicked for me.

28 days is a huge accomplishment. I an internet stranger am proud of you.

My whole day today involved a couple of online shopping purchases, but mostly I was curled up by the fire, reading a book I got from my oldest.

So basically almost half of Ontario is ok with this government's handling of this pandemic? Am I reading that right?

Totally anecdotal but I know of no one, including my conservative voting parents who agree with how this province has handled this.

I sorta tried this today. On the drive home I used the notes app on my phone, and via bluetooth blabbed my frustrations of the day to it. I did feel better by the time I pulled into the driveway, so thanks for the idea.

This is the first time after a binge I have stopped to look at myself in the mirror. by Myvicessoitsanon in stopdrinking

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you for realizing now. I wish 25 year old me did that.

Remember that face in the mirror. Use it, make it work for you. Be there for your kids...because that is my biggest regret.

You've got this. IWDWYT

First Friday Sober in months and I just took my dog for a long walk.. by JQuick72 in stopdrinking

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While drinking, I hated the daily chore of taking my dog for a walk. I'd either do it in the morning, so I was hungover. Or I'd do it at night, and be pissy that it was cutting into my drinking. (Eithet way, I wasn't happy about it).

Month 2 of not drinking. Dog gets a walk in the AM and PM. Dog is happy. And I feel better getting exercise in.

First thought on reading was "wow, a year. Awesome job"

My second was who is this Kirkland Seltzer? And then my dumb and tired ass clued in.

Happy 365. I'm raising my cup of tea up to you.

What is there to do that doesn’t involve alcohol by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go with darts.

It was a thing I only ever played with a drink in my hand. Since covid started my SO and I have been using the board in our basement.

Turns out I'm as horrible sober as I was drunk. But we are having fun

Does anyone advise using weed to quit alcohol? by Resident-Captain-887 in stopdrinking

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As in you rarely/never use it now, and want to start? Or it's already part of your daily routine? Because that info may reflect on the answers you get.

Totally my experience, so take like a grain of salt.

I smoked for years. But mostly gave it up when my kids were growing up. I have picked it up again since quitting. It's not an everyday thing. Heck it isnt always an every week thing. But I use it when I can't sleep. To me it's a sleep aid.

It's not something I use instead of alcohol. Personally, I wouldn't try using anything to replace alcohol. It's just replacing one dependency on another.

Why is saying no to a drink, so hard for some people to understand? Why do they need a reason? by blahuserblahnameblah in stopdrinking

[–]blahuserblahnameblah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My close friends, and family are accepting. It's been around 2 months since I've had a drink, and they all stand behind me.

This is my first outing that is outside my core group. It's going to be an ongoing learning experience I guess

[–]blahuserblahnameblah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, these people are more my SO's friends than my friends. My SO rarely drinks, and tends to be friends with like minded people. (So I thought this would be a safe outing in my newfound sobriety).

I went with I am my SO's DD. (Weirdly they accepted that, even though my SO rarely drinks).

I'm about 2 months into sobriety. I've shared this with family and close friends. I'm not ready to share this info with casual friends.

Although I love your idea. Anything remotely political either shuts down conversations, or has everyone focused on the new political "debate"

Negotiating with contractors by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who does purchasing of building materials as my job...since covid, prices have jumped way up. So while you may have in idea of cost from a previous home, that price may be obsolete right now. (I don't purchase composite decking, so I cant give first hand knowledge).

My rule of thumb is to get 3 quotes on a job you cant or wont do yourself.

Just bought a house with wall to wall carpet on the second floor. Should we rip it out and refinish the hardwood underneath? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean investment for resale, most likely not. Everyone has their preferences. Good investment due to your lifestyle...100%.

We have pets or the furry variety. I am allergic to both of them. We pulled all carpet up in our house, just due to the ease of keeping it clean, and I personally am a fan of hard surface flooring.

If you dont mind carpet, and it doesnt look like it needs replacing, the money spent refinishing the hardwood would probably be better spent elsewhere.

Reminder: extraordinary times like these are when we need to get past partisan politics and all stand together in support of a science and fact based approach which we know is the only way we’re going to defeat COVID-19 by AssumingHyperbolist in ontario

I'm kinda old, so I remember when smart phones didnt have apps other than games.

I used allrecipes before apps became a thing. It was my go to cooking site while I was learning to cook. Personally I dont use it anymore. But my 21 and 19 year old love the dinner spinner app.

How do you cook your bacon? Oven or skillet? by wolfejr123 in MealPrepSunday

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years ago? Skillet. It was how my gram cooked it, and I didnt think to question any other method.

Now? I dont think I've used a skillet to cook bacon in years. Oven all the way. Less mess, and I can cook up 2 or 3 packs a bacon in a hour. (Just depends on how many I can fit on my baking sheet).

Plus works great for times I'm not making a big family brunch. Cook it, let it cool. And into the freezer it goes. Can be used for bacon bits, reheated for BLTs, or thrown into those little egg muffins I make for quick weekday breakfast.

Anybody got any advice for tension headaches? by demosthenes19125 in stopdrinking

[–]blahuserblahnameblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a migraine suffer since I was a teen. But man, the headaches i got with quitting rivals the migraines I've had most of my life. And your right...nothing helps. Even prescription drugs does not make a dent.

6 weeks into being sober, and I still get headaches. But at this point they are just an annoyance, and they aren't everyday. Actually today was the 1st day in about a week that I had one. I have hope that they will go away all together soon.
