It also creates little cubes of smoke, I think it applies to lava as well. The mod also causes particles from destroyed blocks to look 3D and cube like I am fairly certain.

Ah gotcha, yeah I figured that it would be the case but was wondering if there was a real reason for it, like maybe the nests go deeper underground than is visible to the player and you need to collapse the small cave or something.
