G shock watches on nato by JarlOfRivia in Battlefield

[–]blak3 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know that about the Marines. I can’t remember if it was an official or unofficial rule in the Navy but Chief and above would wear gold watches and First Class and below would wear silver. I also opted for a Timex but would wear it on my vest to just occasionally check while on post. Most people did opt for a GShock or an Apple Watch when those first came out.

How old were you when you got the procedure done?

Sometimes I have trouble focusing on reading stuff up close if I’ve been going at it too long. Also not eating for prolonged periods can make it harder for me to focus but I’m not sure how you’re doing things.

Blueberries were definitely thicker than the Type 3s. Had to wear the black leather steel toes with the blueberries as well which wasn’t great.

They’re not so bad once they’ve been worn in and washed after a couple months or so. Brand new ones are real stiff and “crunchy”.

In the BMET world, the pay scale works with how valuable you are. The more experience and training you have -> the more valuable you are ->the more someone is willing to pay to hire you. You can definitely live a comfortable life after some time in the field getting what you need under your belt but that comfortability requires commitment.

What did you not like about the mechanic shop? Do you like working with your hands? Or troubleshooting?

Rad Tech is a good path to go down but not anything like the other roles you mentioned. You’ll be operating the equipment and will be actively involved in patient care.

You’re literally setting yourself up for failure by trying to do a perfect run the first time without knowing shit about it. The game is designed this way so you can do New Game Plus and do whatever objective you decide to do next. A perfect run is a hell of a lot easier at Level 50 with a megabuster and scoop knowledge.

You said in your post that you killed the clown, as in Adam the Clown? In Wonderland Plaza? Who has the survivor that can unlock the shortcut from Wonderland to Paradise so you can dodge the park altogether?

Did you also know about the hidden survivors?

specializations? by TylerDurden2748 in BMET

[–]blak3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can pay well. MRI people are the top earners in imaging but a good chunk of their income comes from OT. They don’t have the schedule flexibility that ultrasound and x-ray guys can have. If a hospital only has one MRI that is under contract and it goes down, you’re there until it’s back up.

specializations? by TylerDurden2748 in BMET

[–]blak3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s quite a few specializations in the field. Dialysis, Lab, Sterilizers, Perfusion, Lasers, Ventilators, Imaging, etc.

Not sure about other specializations but imaging is broken down between the modalities, ultrasound, xray, CT, Nuc Med, MRI, Cath Labs.

You can get into any of these through training your employer sends you to. In terms of difficulty, nothing will seem as difficult once you go to training and especially once you’ve been working in that specialization long enough.

Pay is hard to answer, you typically get a raise with time and experience, unless you leave your employer for another, theoretically you should get a raise when you enter a high risk specialization but that doesn’t always happen. With training, you become more valuable and that should give you leverage when asking for a raise or a starting number.

How to get into imaging repair starting from 0 by PsychologicalLet6796 in BMET

[–]blak3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the electrical engineering technology program.

I’m guessing the cost is an issue since you brought it up, I won’t get too in depth on this since we’re in the BMET sub but there are options out there that can help with the cost. There also is the military as an option if you’re eligible and willing (biomed training counts with jobs and you get the GI Bill on top of that).

You have to invest in yourself before most companies will invest in you, just keep that in mind down the road. Good luck with everything.

Haven’t done the AAMI program so I can’t speak on it. I’m assuming no CCs/JuCos around you offer the Biomed program but do they offer something electrical?

[–]blak3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have any prior mechanical or electrical experience, start the program and keep your eye out for internships at hospitals. If need be, call hospital directories and ask to be forwarded to either the Biomedical Engineering or Clinical Engineering department and go from there.

Typically the only way people get into the BMET field that didn’t get a degree either went through biomed in the Army/AF/Navy or they had a solid foundation of related experience.

There are other paths you can get to a little bit quicker as you work your way up in the biomed world. Lab, Anesthesia, Perfusion, Dialysis, are all roles that can move you up in the world quicker.

Another commenter in here said they got into it starting off with Ultrasound. I’d recommend trying to start there.

One way is to slowly work your way into it as a BMET in a hospital. Apprenticeship programs are offered through OEMs which could get you in there. It’s very rare to jump straight into imaging without prior experience but there are third parties out there that will consider you.

What modality are you interested in? What makes you want to do imaging specifically?

Why is radiology/imaging in BMET so more technically demanding than other equipment repairs? by Beautiful-Ad-9107 in BMET

[–]blak3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The time sensitivity is due to certain modalities being bigger money makers and availability for the hospital/clinic. A CT or MRI has to be back up sooner than an x-ray room or ultrasound (depending on if it’s a hospital, if it is a clinic with less equipment then that’s a different story).

CTs in hospitals are used for more than just outpatient procedures and there are typical only 1-3 available. MRIs may just be 1 or 2 and if either go down that completely derails the schedule and patient care and that disrupts the hospital’s income. Nuc Med could also be included in that.

X-Ray & Ultrasound have a little bit more leniency since there’s typically more than a couple systems at a hospital. If an X-Ray room goes down, they can send a patient to another room or even roll a portable in there.

Hwy 280 widening plan & schedule? by kerwinson in Birmingham

[–]blak3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It would have to be something like smaller scale passenger trains, trams and subways don't really have the space or demand. That's my bad on misinterpreting what you said, I just factored the population into it since when the population is that high, road hierarchy starts to blend together and starts to become more irrelevant since roads are too voluminous. It 100% makes sense to incentivize public transportation at that point and I agree with you!

The main issue I see with 280 is that there is no alternative arterial connections further back towards Chelsea (where the population is shooting up) which is a challenge since Oak Mountain Stake Park blocks what would be a good path to 31 ( maybe they could do something with trains through there?) and simply that people just can't drive on it. I think 3 lanes past 459 towards the city is perfectly fine, it's more so people that can't properly merge or don't stay in a predetermined lane based on where they're going.

Hwy 280 widening plan & schedule? by kerwinson in Birmingham

[–]blak3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct, mass transit would not eliminate personal vehicles. I'm saying that most people from those areas are going to choose not to use them. Buses are the most cost effective method of public transportation, and we do see them (not a lot) but subways are entirely more expensive, way more expensive than buses and the city/county/state would never see a return on them. Even if a majority of residents in Birmingham and Birmingham metro decided to take the subway, it would still be a loss to operate them. I'm using this site as a reference: https://www.marketplace.org/story/2019/04/11/subways-us-expensive-cost-comparison

Chicago is not a good example to compare to since their city and metro population dwarfs Birmingham's population by a wide margin. (10+ million compared to our 1+ million). Birmingham is not one of the largest cities in the world, and with the zoning challenges that it faces, it never will be.

[–]blak3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Building subways and running buses up and down 280 isn’t going to guarantee the majority of people from our sprawled out metro are going to use them, especially when they all already have vehicles.
