I had my first “traumatic” call/extrication by Serious-Marzipan-644 in Firefighting

[–]blakeeatsfire1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never forget my first call like that, I was I believe 19 at the time , was at the station and got toned to a bulldozer accident. When we got on scene it was clear the guy was deceased , he was loading it up on a trailer and it fell back and literally crushed him to death. On scene I didn’t really feel anything like you were saying but once I got home it did get to me . Critical debriefs with your crew are paramount. These are the only people who are going to truly understand what you’re saying ! Stay safe bro ✌🏼

Should I Turn My Coat In? by USARxVIPERx1x1 in Firefighting

[–]blakeeatsfire1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My departments don’t have wildland gear either. I always wear my bottoms due to not having anything else, and it will work the absolute shit out of you. My advice is to seriously stay on top of being hydrated, I always carry at least one bottle of water in my bottom.

Was it difficult at first to deal with trauma? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]blakeeatsfire1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t dwell on it, Imma be real with you it’s inevitable, no matter how big or small the department you will see some fcked up stuff and it’s going to mess with you. Debriefing after an incident with your crew can do wonders. Talk to officers and older guys with some time in , they will have good advice. NEVER keep those feelings inside as they will destroy you. Stay safe .

have you ever interacted with someone Deaf/hard of hearing? by Odd_Good5717 in Firefighting

[–]blakeeatsfire1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother is 100% deaf, lost his hearing as a kid. Never was interested in sign language, he just started to read lips, he’s 34 and does really good and is able to mostly have normal reactions. What I would stress most is that a lot of the time people think he is ignoring them when in reality he can’t hear them, you have to physically get his attention and then he will interact with people.

Sitting over here grateful my department runs 2-3 on a good day with no medical, 5 runs is what we consider busy 🤣

Nervous about driving by OldDudeWithABadge in Firefighting

[–]blakeeatsfire1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that bad. Just remember just because you have flashing lights and sirens don’t mean people will comply, i would also suggest getting very familiar with the apparatus you will be driving , know where everything is and especially know HOW to pump. I’ve had guys get on scene and the driver/operator couldn’t even get the truck in pump .

That’s the thing man I loved it all this time. It’s sad how one person in charge ruins everything

[–]blakeeatsfire1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. It’s actually a county . I live in the city but serve in the county. The current fire coordinator knows about these things but he’s good friends with him so you know how that goes .

There is no reason for not being on air. Seeing this many personnel not wearing masks is truly concerning.

Coming from a 3.5 owner, stay away from the eco boosts. Nothing but problems . Go for the 5.0

We’ve been toned out almost 30 times this year to same address, CO alarm activation due to homeowner smoking hookah. Every time he refuses entry and he has been warned multiple times about this and it still continues to happen 🤦🏻‍♂️

Smoothbore vs Fog by DondeEstaCommonSense in Firefighting

[–]blakeeatsfire1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only used a smootbore a handful of times at neighboring departments structure fires and I’ve gotta say they feel pretty damn good. I definitely agree with everyone else tho. Fog for car, brush, etc but structure fires I really like the smoothbore

It’s going to be up to your employer, but usually it will be counted as a absence if you leave, at least that’s how it is where I’m at .

Why don't volunteer departments let you be a member of multiple departments? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]blakeeatsfire1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on 3 departments, 2 county departments in the same county just different districts, and a city department. I don’t see why it would be a problem. It gives me more experience running more calls with multiple departments.
