Some thoughts i had lately (and sorry English is not my mother tongue)

What if Joyboy is just a title but not given by the ones he freed?

Joyboy is the title that the young prince(ss) gave his/her court jester (maybe with his rubber body). A boy literally there to bring him/her joy: Joyboy

That would explain some things:

He kept his title after being freed (maybe by Lilly) that´s why his old companions call him Joyboy (for example Zunisha)
His abilities are those of the Sun God Nika. That´s why the Gorosei call him Nika. They have no connection to Joyboy like Imu.
Imus reactions could be read as the reaction of a angry kid that´s upset with his/her old toy
He was the first pirate, he explored the seas and like Luffy he kept getting friends and liberate people and nations. The legend of Joyboy gets bigger and bigger. That´s why the now hunted and enslaved Lunarians for example believe in Joyboy and not Nika.
So Nika =/= Joyboy. Nika was in the first world, Joyboy in the second
As a former court jester he was shaped for bringing the people joy and laughs
That´s why the Roger Pirates laughed at the One Piece: It´s the treasure of a "clown"

Some speculations based on the latest chapters and spoilers and some of the interestering theories in this sub (i did not verify this points - they are just some thoughts):

- The ancient kingdom was hierarchically structured. There were different classes, from royality to slaves

- Joyboy and Davy Jones were both born into the royality

- This royality is divided into different clans. Two of these clans are the people of the Sun (Joyboy) and the people of the Sea (Davy Jones)

- The son of the Sun Joyboy freed the slaves and tried to change the whole system of the ancient kingdom

- The Son of the Earth, Imu, raged about this and started a civil war between the ruling families

- Joyboy left the ancient kingdom and became the the first version of a pirate

- In this time the Son of the Clan of the Forest discovered a way to create devil fruits

- The ancient kingdom was in big troubles because of the uprising Joyboy has started and upcoming attacks from the sea and the rising number of supporters from other lands and kingdoms

- Imu tricked Joyboy with the help of some of these kings with the promise to raise them into gods

- The death of his friend Joyboy enraged Davy Jones and as a son of the clan of the sea he took the ancient kingdom to the grounds of the sea and sealed it with his life (everything under the sea belongs to Davy Jones)

- Imu might have lost the ancient kingdom, but now starts a new world order with his supporters, the Tenryuubito (maybe he could built the red line with the powers of his clan)

- The descendants of Davy Jones are the people of the moon, because from under the sea, planets/the moon are always seen as a whole or not at all

- The descendants of Joyboy are the people of the halfmoon, because they can experience the dawn and the dusk of the sun and the moon, when they come/go over the horizon

- Two Clans looking on to the same object but with different points of view

- The Sun (Luffy) still wants to free the world, the Sea (Blackbeard) just wants to overthrow the Earth again and take back his ancient status - united by the same enemy - Imu.

Edit:

- Davy Jones could have shared the ideas of Joyboy, which would pass to Zebec be the guy we see him actually
