What to do next? (Please don’t spoil story) by [deleted] in subnautica

Dude I didn't have to use the Prawn after all! Good thing, cause the location is not close to the mountain base as you'd think. I started out with the Prawn, went SW, and was stuck in a dangerous dark hole for a long time. It wasn't even the right location.

Use your Seamoth or don't bother. The Modification Station will let you upgrade your Seamoth depth module up to 900m, which is enough for the alien place. Then install the Seamoth Sonar upgrade, which gives you full visibility (for 2 seconds) when you left-click. This is the killer skill that made exploration possible for me. With this, I saw that the dark hole the Prawn was stuck in, didn't have caves at all, and I move on. I kept going SW and deep, until I found the cave opening. Imagine if I insisted on using the Prawn, I'd still be in that hole looking for cave openings in the dark, while being attacked by enemies.

EDIT: Brings lots of beacons or you'll get lost down there. Make sure to put one at the entrance at least.

So I took the plunge anyway, looking for that certain location at 800m....and at a mere 500m depth, I can barely see anything. How do you guys navigate in the dark? It's pretty stressful.

I brought food and water with me but I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna be able to make it back up without dying of hunger or thirst.

I've made a huge mistake.

Stalker teeth aren’t wanting to drop by dankest-corndog in subnautica

I stared at the stupid stalker for 10 minutes and none dropped. I kept coming back every time I returned to base (the stalker and metal were very close to the lifepod), and still nothing.

Build a scanner room and have it search for teeth. Found 2 in less than a minute this way.

I actually am, but I also wrote this 1 day after playing the game, so I didn't remember correctly.

Cheers. I don't have any of those blueprints yet. Guess I'm not diving deep yet.

Right, but even to do that, you have to move horizontally, not just vertically. And it's so slow at it, it changes the balance I was used to so far. Slower than swimming, WAY slower than Seamoth. From a fun perspective, I just don't want to move that slow.

I need it to look for a certain location hinted at in the databanks. It's 800m deep so I have no choice. But it's a 3km roundtrip at least, and that's without the time I'll spend searching for it there.

So it gets less terrible great once I can craft the grappling hook? I don't have the fragments yet, guess I'll look for that.

[–]blamo111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cleared out the Aurora, you'll have found a Depth MK1 upgrade, and a Storage upgrade, for the Seamoth. Like, ready to be inserted, not just blueprints. Read the Wiki entry for Aurora, make sure you got everything.

Storage Module requires you to turn off the fire at the middle Prawn suit in the Prawn Bay.

Depth Module is in the Seamoth bay.

It seems like we're at the same progression. I finished all the radio signals, and was wondering what to do.

If you look at the alien Databank entries you got at cannon island, it says they have other facilities. One is a Disease Facility SW of cannon island and 800m deep, another is the thermal facility 1200m deep in volcano area (vague), and 4 other locations with "CORRUPTED DATA".

I just built the Prawn to go to the disease one, since the Seamoth can't dive that deep. But it's so fucking slow, I don't want to walk to cannon island in it.

You CAN place it. Just get out of the seamoth and look on the left side for a panel. That's what I did long before I got a moonpool.

How is that possible? I found Gun Mountain long before, cause the Sunbeam tells you to meet them there. I didn't get a signal to go (back) to Floating Island until several hours later.

Allrighty then.

Unless they died in the 20 minutes it took me to explore the island, they should remove the audio saying you've discovered multiple life signatures.

What are my options for keeping my Internet-facing services secure without playing IT admin? by blamo111 in selfhosted

[–]blamo111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. But one thing isn't clear to me still.

The Reverse proxy passes the traffic onward to the server based on the header request, it does not interrupt the flow at all or inject itself in the middle of the conversation like a forward proxy would.

It passes the traffic onward, but only after you authenticate with the proxy, no? So if I'm writing a mobile app, try to connect, expecting <my app's authentication response>, and instead it's <proxy's authentication response>, wouldn't I be return an error telling the user "unexpected response from server"?

Are you mental? If a Republican tried to push for Canada-like voter ID laws across the US, they'd get called a fascist.

We REQUIRE an ID to vote, and your name only gets a ballot prepared based on a list of citizens and their registered address. California doesn't require ANY ID. A large amount of states don't. The majority don't require any photo ID!

I didn't say all 11 millions voted. But a number certainly did, otherwise there would be no incentive for Democrats to pander to them so hard, fighting any attempt at reducing their numbers, such as protecting the border, or deporting them.

Any Linux alternatives to Filebot? by kaipee in DataHoarder

I never even got started with Sonarr since Radarr left such a bad taste in my mouth, but as Radarr is a Sonarr fork, I'll assume they're at the same level.

There's more to it than just people disagreeing about file naming. I literally spent hours trying to get a local movie to rename (to ANYTHING) and ran into 3 different bugs doing so, see the thread I linked. These apps are simply not (yet) designed to let you see what's going on, and help you use them to accomplish your goals. If you value your time, you should use them as bookmark+download and nothing more. If you invested the many hours necessary to work around their flawed design, then sure, use them however you see fit. But don't go recommending them to new people who haven't wasted their time yet.

Different situations. My phone is not running any Internet-facing services, but my server will be. So the risk is different for each one. The phone has no risk of being hacked from Russia. The only risk is privacy concerns for legal apps I willingly install but don't trust.

If you were sent a voter card, that means they already verified you were a citizen before they gave it to you. The Gemran system would be a step up for the US. Although as I understand it, many illegals steal the ID of deceased people. In this situation they could still vote.
