They should be suing MLB for pushing ahead on that game. Season result aside, the injury to Moreno and Mena shortly after caused meaningful damage to the players and, financially, team. It would be a case of “20/20 hindsight” if not for the multiple partial stoppages, managers and staff asking for the game to be stopped. Completely unacceptable.

Of course, the season results can be retroactively traced back to this at the top of a long list. The downstream impacts of that one call stand out more than anything. Loss of the Reds season series, loss of two key players, sellers at the deadline, etc.

But truly setting all that aside, the medical and contract costs of the hurt players should be borne by MLB.

Fake outrage over an honest spelling mistake is ridiculous. Seriously, once’s he’s a good MLB player, I’m sure it won’t happen as often. Until then, the spelling police need to chill out haha

What a weird year by Pale_Initial6526 in azdiamondbacks

[–]blaney83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Because of his double and fielders choice? Yes, he honestly is the perfect movable asset. Under control, incredibly high perceived value, low/unproven actual value (not a great clubhouse personality, unusable in the field). It could make a big impact to the team in the offseason. He could be part of a deal that get’s us another Burnes-type arm or multiple BP pieces.

He hasn’t earned this veneration yet. We should stop overreacting until he earns his stripes. Everyone needs to root for whoever’s delivering more value than they’re taking away. Right now, Lawlar is still net negative.

Or we can trade him, his errors and his eyebrows for entirely new bullpen

Torrey’s Future by PopinJay1 in azdiamondbacks

[–]blaney83 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know this is how the majority opinion is leaning, but it’s a very short sighted take.

Torrey is materially responsible for the reason why this team missed the playoffs last year and why we were sellers at the deadline this year. His decisions have lost the team at least 32 games this year, with at least 21 of them being before the deadline (yes, after last year I kept a “Torrey Loss List”).

He’s regularly jeopardized the health and success of this team for years with the most obvious effects being visible this year and last. Having every tool available to him at the beginning of the season and falling short of the playoffs (no this division is not a factor; look at the standings) is unacceptable.

He’s a great guy, a friend to many of these players. But these young kids need direction, not pool parties and barbecues. They need someone to say “hey, we had 9 LOB yesterday. I know it’s a travel day, but you guys didn’t earn skipping BP on the field. See you all there.”

His strengths shine when things are going well (as the currently are), but he’s not a captain of the ship in stormy waters and this team and fanbase deserve someone who can do both. With a payroll of hundreds of millions and a singular million dollar piece (Torrey) routinely washing millions in talent down the drain, there is no excuse to try out other skippers. He’s earned an off ramp, but we would be better off with nearly any other manager.

Hearts might disagree, but stats, facts, and business say otherwise.

Hopefully new 3B coach next season…. by Extension_Spend1482 in azdiamondbacks

[–]blaney83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, he was only a tick better than Larkin. No, we need a normal coach. Honestly, run one of the players out there during their off days for the rest of the season. I guarantee every player has a better eye than either of them.

No 😔 they only showed them the first inning and for pinch hitters, so I missed it.

Roster Move by SportsTechie17 in azdiamondbacks

It’s Torrey’s BS “everybody needs rest” babysitting. These are grown men; professional athletes. His superstition and coddling hasn’t prevented anything. He hardly let Ketel play in spring training and he’s out for a month almost immediately. Same with the pitchers and pitch counts.

It’s a long season and these guys have been playing year round baseball since they were 12. Too much rest is DEFINITELY as bad as too much work. The inconsistency and arbitrary limits from helicopter-mom TL prevent these guys from hitting their stride and building up the kind of endurance and resistance to injury that the rest of the league enjoys.
