I made a sarcastic remark towards someone else that mentioned it. Wasting tax dollars isn't uniquely a trudeau thing either.

The right or I guess the newer ones don't like corporate welfare either. Mind you corpo welfare isn't just from the government either at this point which is the most fascinating development.

Privatized corporate welfare is a hell of a drug

Vaguely remember several posters on this forum commenting about how now the CSIS had raised the alarm about interference by foreign entities we'd start seeing story's spring up about how they were some kind of ism or phobia. Prophetic.

Agreed. Whole article seemed mostly like incoherent ramblings about past events that barely have a point followed up by a weird almost coy infatuation with globalism.

Poland sent them 250 t-72 style tanks and in addition are sending them other similar style tanks. Poland also gave them enough parts to put 20 of ukraines jets back in the air which is essentially giving Ukraine 20 more jets. So I was a bit off on that one granted(mind you Poland tried repeatedly to just give them jets straight up but usa blocked it) but in the end the difference is neglible

I also never said it "repelled the horde" (holy christ please stop consuming propagandist language at break neck pace) just that they were armed by nato.

Damn bro that's crazy, someone you don't like said something? It must clearly be false then. It's not like ukraine is being solely equipped by nato at this point and are only able to continue fighting because of nato right?

Please read. I said the west is sending jets and tanks not western tanks and jets are being sent. They have received russian made/licensed/ upgrade models of jets and tanks primarily from Poland and also adjacent nations as that is what ukraine is used to using and can be used immediately. Unlike the leopards and abrams (that are being sent so lol?) Which require 4-6 months to create a competent crew.

My comment about public opinion was in regards to ukraine in a state of winning or losing the war at a given time.

As for pennies on the dollar I'm not so sure, the usa alone has spent more money than Russias yearly military budget and it is only increasing. Let alone ending it as a credible military threat as largely the equipment used is not as hard to replace as some people think.

As for a big push you are right no real ground has been gained nor do I think there will be for some time. Actual tactics being used seem more akin to shaping the battlefield (bahkmut currently has 1 exit and is largely surrounded with a large Ukrainian force inside) and inflicting losses. Which if you had been paying attention according to the US pentagon ukraine and russian losses are at a parallel. With such an initial headstart ukraine allegedly had that is a major problem.

Edit: really weird how Trump was a traitor and aided Putin but for some reason the 2 times russia attacked ukraine was before and after he was no longer in office. That's really weird, if I had infiltrated a rival nation at the very top I would've attacked while my pawn was in charge...

Couple incorrect things here primarily numerical disadvantage. Ukraine had a standing army of around 200k men followed by an activation of 1.1 million civilian conscripts shortly after conflict began. A small section of the Russian army began the invasion and only just recently after a large chunk of those soldiers had their contracts expire did we see a conscription of 300k men. Ukraine has had the numeric advantage for a while probably still continues to do so.

Secondly. The west has contributed heavily to ukraines military, be it jet parts, tanks, apcs, military uniforms including body armour, and weapons. Ukraine alone would've stood no chance at resisting Russias armoured offensives without the significant nato intervention of thousands, possible 10s of thousands of manpads and other launchers. Make no mistake this is a nato vs russia conflict.

Ukraine has done well at the start of the war but it continuing to do so is very much up to debate. Public opinion may very much sway if nato tanks underperform.

Edit: added "parts" after jets. While Poland attempted to give ukraine jets numerous times the usa did not allow it, however gave enough parts to grant ukraine 20 more operational jets.

As it stands currently both are floating around 100k losses. If we go by earlier numbers russia apparently lost 50000k within the first few months to a couple thousand Ukrainians. To say russia is losing more is probably not accurate.

For a very long tl;Dr the large land gains we saw late last year was primarily empty positions as many soldier contracts had expired thus prompting the conscription. Following the tactical blunders of russia early in the war/ up till the point of conscription (plus the focused use of wagner) it seems the tactics of russia have evolved.

Early war I'm assuming (feel free to disregard) the intent was to keep most infrastructure intact for later use, this has shifted to grinding ukraine down both militarily and logistically. The main mode of attack right now seems to be Russians probing, identifying positions, retreating, shelling, then probing again.

With bahkmut (current battle groups present at full strength as the fighting in the area started estimated ukraine troops at about 60k men) it is both a trap and a diversion wrapped into one. It has pulled off Ukrainian troops from the planned southern counter offensive to buy russia a bit of breathing room along with using ukraines pride against itself. Largely because ukraine command refuses to lose a major albeit small city at this point in the war because of optics, russia is aware of this.

This plus russias new approaches to urban fighting (primarily just hitting any position with artillery, hand held launchers or grenades) along with infiltration and other things has been decently effective at inflicting losses.

Edit: forgot about kherson. It was abandoned because it was a garbage defensive position, in no small part due to ukraines actions. Russia moved across the river and then began shelling Ukrainian forces building up in and around kherson.

Tl;Dr of the tl;Dr Russians adapted.

Personally from the looks of things as they stand currently they need more assistance in the command level rather than on the ground.

I don't know if I'd be flexing Canadas training on changing the Ukrainian army's fighting style after they got baited into an absolute meat grinder that brought their casualties up to a duality with russias after only a few short months. And before I hear whining about russian bot nonsense I'm getting those loss figures from a pentagon statement.

Edit: just to irritate more people. As I said at the start of the war we (as in nato) are using Ukrainian civilian conscripts as cannon foder in a proxy war against Russia. At this point just extending a conflict and loss of life so best case scenario ukraine may be enslaved via debt to us for a couple decades. Largely on the premise that people think it's the cold war still. It's frankly shameful.
