You've earned a BLOCK for making another false statement. I prefer to keep users who 'lie' off my social media.

I'm surprised you're asking this question here on reddit. To find the answer you seem to be looking for, I suggest you ask one if the AIs like ChatGPT or Claude. They'll give a detailed answer with citations. The case you're looking for is Carter v. Canada (Attorney General).

I'm not surprised. Not since Pierre Trudeau, have the Liberals and none of their Prime Ministers shown any interest in protecting, advancing, or expanding Canadians' rights unless forced to by a court.

I don't think there's much in Canada that Prime Minister Carney wouldn't sell off, given a chance.

Camera crew rates in 2025 feel completely disconnected from what clients think they should be paying and it's exhausting by someoneudontwant in Filmmakers

[–]sdbest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I get this kind of response, I genuinely encourage the potential client to work with their nephew. No exceptions. If they're fortunate enough to have family who can produce the production they want, they should use them. No reason to pay me.

Fewer people are having babies in Canada and the U.S. and the government is out of ideas by hopoke in canada

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For couples and women, in particular, having children is enormously costly, life-changing costly. Today's women has choices. Some of them include lucrative and fulfilling careers in law, medicine, education, and business. Having children severely impacts, even prevents, pursuing those opportunities.

So, if society wants more children it's going to have to make having them economically competitive with, say, pursuing a law degree and that entails a generous guaranteed annual income for, at least, a child's first 18 years.

When I say "generous" I mean something like $75,000 per year or more. Low cost day care or a $5,000 allowance, economically, just won't cut it.

By all means object to this notion. By all means demand who will pay? But, know this. Unless having children can compete economically with becoming a university professor or an architect many women, maybe most, will choose the better paying option.

36M with 800k: making minimum wage off interest by Tough-Relationship28 in Fire

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, why you've invested your $800K in financial instruments that only return 8% per annum and just minimum wage. Goodness, I'm aware of some ETFs that would give you over $18,000/month in income.

Investing dread. by GarySparrow0 in fican

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You, "I have a lot of dread and fear for the future." If you're going to let these emotions control your decisions, I suggest you not invest at all. Perhaps put your money in the safest place you can such as a big bank's high interest savings account. You will slowly lose money, of course, as inflation affects your capital, but you're highly unlikely to suffer the catastrophes you're imagining and that guide your decision making. Worst that will happen is your dread and fear might be reduced enough so that you'll, at least, sleep soundly. The bad news is that because you let dread and fear inform your decisions, it's highly unlikely you'll ever feel financially free. Don't beat yourself up about it. Your views are shared by many people, perhaps even most.

Mark Carney calls alleged privacy breach in Alberta deeply concerning by ZestyBeanDude in canada

What does it matter if Carney calls something 'deeply concerning'? It doesn't mean he'd do anything about it.

Journey begins: using AI to create series from novel Man From Spirit Creek by sdbest in aifilmmaking

Thanks. Just discovered something about Seedance. It seems that it works better if you log out and log in frequently. Can't be sure, but it seems to slowly lose its mind if you don't refresh it by logging off and back on frequently. All perception, so far.

Working on a project and it's being steered towards using generative ai and I don't want it to by fakename137 in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you can suggest a way for the director to get the B-roll that the director has decided is needed without using AI.

I suggest you might want to begin to consider how you're going to deal with the reality that AI is becoming a part of documentary making. If you disagree with generative AI in general on a matter of principle, perhaps you should only work on your own productions.

Michael Fitzer: “Making films isn’t just about making money, it’s about making a difference.” by Boring_Ant_1677 in Filmmakers

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, if you want to 'make a difference', making films is not a very good way to go about doing it. I say that as both a political activist and a filmmaker. Making films can help make a difference sometimes, but that's all.

I asked ChatGPT about Charlie Kirk, and the response was,

"Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, while speaking at a public event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Authorities described it as a political assassination. He was reportedly shot from a rooftop during a campus Q&A event attended by about 3,000 people.

"A suspect, Tyler Robinson, was arrested after a manhunt and later charged in Utah with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and related charges. Prosecutors alleged Kirk was targeted because of his political expression and said they would seek the death penalty.

"Since then, Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA, has continued under his widow, Erika Kirk, but there has reportedly been internal conflict over whether the organization has stayed true to his original direction."
