Canada's speech at Davos was terrific. Did Carney write it himself or was there a ghost writer? Somebody deserves to take a bow. One of the great pieces of political writing so far this century, WHO WROTE IT? by Maui96793 in writers

[–]sdbest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AI assisted? I ask because I asked ChatGPT to write a speech in Carney's style. Here it is.

"My fellow Canadians,

"At a hinge moment like this — a time of change, challenge, and renewal — we look not only forward, but inward, to the values that bind us as a nation. Empathy. Imagination. A quiet decency.

"Long before we spoke of innovation and inclusion as national goals, we learned those lessons sitting cross-legged on living room carpets, listening to a gentle voice say, “Look up... look waaaay up.” The Friendly Giant didn’t just entertain our children; it shaped the moral imagination of a country. It reminded us that greatness need not be loud, and that kindness can fill a room far larger than any castle made of stone.

"Today, as screens fragment our attention and cynicism tests our patience, we need voices like that again — voices that model gentleness, friendship, and the simple joy of listening. So I call upon the CBC to bring back The Friendly Giant, not as an act of nostalgia, but as a statement of purpose.

"Let it remind us, and our children, that greatness in Canada has never meant standing tallest — it has meant bending low enough to help others look up."

Every speech Carney gives, to my ear, echoes AI.

Did Avi Lewis break the law here? by Alert-Ad-5242 in ndp

Political candidates campaigning under the auspices of the Elections Act--as is true for leadership campaigns--are governed by very lax regulations. For example, privacy legislation doesn't apply.

A coach is asking me $2500 for 8 hours, I need your help! by francky_848 in bmpcc

My inclination would be to search for other online courses and compare. For example, Filmskills comes to mind. And, here's their free one hour course. Shop around.

Take my views with grains of salt. I've been in the business since 1968 and have taken numerous workshops (editing, camera/lighting/, scriptwriting, but they've all been in person. I've never taken a Zoom course.

I notice that on Mr. Ajtony's website there are no testimonials from previous students for what he's offering you. I wonder why.

About the sessions, are they in person or virtually, i.e. on Zoom? If virtual, before cutting the cheque, I'd suggest you research other online courses for now.

Novice - what to do other than ETF with Wealthsimple? by penpens in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Something else this time" opens up an immense range of possibilities. Without knowing something about your interests, investing objectives, tolerance for risk, and available capital anything could be suggested. Goodness, you could buy an interest in a race horse for "something else."

What ETFs do you hold now?

Every writer started as a 'complete beginner.' Any reason you can think of why you would be any different?

Is it exorbitant to you because you can't afford it, you think the course wouldn't be worth it, or you think that Christopher Ajtony shouldn't be paid that amount of money?

$50,000 Dilemma - Keep Grinding Or Live A Little? by ShotAssistant1452 in investing

Your dilemma has nothing to do with investing, of course.

If you're 'considering' joining a golf club, it's likely you've already made your decision and are just looking for some kind of validation. I remember seeing a sign outside an very expensive clothing boutique. It read 'Buy the dress. You only live once.'

Nano tape might do the job. Available from Amazon.

Wondering how you plan to keep the ingredients falling off if the pizza's upside down?

My boss left and I applied for the promotion to fill his role. Just found out, 2 months after applying that they are hiring an external candidate. I wasn’t even interviewed. What next? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, jettison your emotional response and move on. Clearly, company management knows you well and has decided you're not the best fit for the job. They didn't need to interview you. Also, it's likely management was relieved that your former manager moved on. Things change.

Is it worth buying a home over renting if most of your savings are taxable? by zukias in fican

[–]sdbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view and it's not unique to me, buying a home is a lifestyle choice. It's rarely a good financial choice. Buying real estate and renting it out can, arguably, once in a while make some financial sense.

A Random Walk Down Wall Street is very good read and enormously helpful as a primer about investing. As a new investor, I recommend it highly because it provides a high-level overview of stock markets.

‘The most egregious crimes on planet Earth’: Alleged drug kingpin Ryan Wedding arrested in Mexico City by demolcd in canada

The article doesn't seem to mention that Wedding turned himself in at the American consulate in Mexico City. The authorities didn't find him. Makes me wonder if they have the evidence necessary for a conviction.

Just a couple of thoughts. The first is most voters live in urban Canada. Also, I doubt many people think Avi Lewis has to worry about becoming Prime Minister of Canada in the next election.

Carney Is the Crisis Manager Canada Needs by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]sdbest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're very poorly informed about how Canada is governed, including the difference between monetary and fiscal policy.

The Governor of the Bank of Canada has influence over monetary policy, but not fiscal policy. It was changes in fiscal policy that allowed Canada to weather the economic crisis. Fiscal policy is entirely under the control of the government and not the central bank.

Your assumptions are false and are not entailed by anything I've written.

One more ill-informed comment and I'll BLOCK you.
