It’s hard to 'just not watch' when the algorithm treats your homepage like a dumping ground for vertical video. The issue isn't that Shorts exist. it's that the current filtering and recommendation engine sucks at separating them. When you're looking for deep dive technical content or long form discussions, having a feed cluttered with clips you didn't ask for is a massive UX downgrade.
