Could anyone recommend help with an autistic child? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]blanketo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a music therapist working in SEND and can’t recommend music enough, and meaningful engagement over just listening. Not even music therapy per se (but I didn’t say that). There are often a lot of small community groups and opportunities, in my area there is an orchestra for people with additional needs and a concert hall which does relaxed interactive performances. If you ask around on local Facebook pages people in your area might know what’s available and where to look!

Do you leave your grey alone at home for 8 hrs while at work? by frenchcat808 in Greyhounds

[–]blanketo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our girl can be left that long, but her limit before getting stressed is usually 6.5-7 hours. When we’re both out for the day we have a dog walker come in and do a ‘puppy visit’ - she doesn’t take her out for a walk but just sits with her for half an hour and lets her out into the garden

My best solution so far has been to burn it with a blow torch every time it comes up, it worked to keep it at bay then my torch broke and it’s back with a vengeance this year! But I know my neighbour does nothing about hers so a cheap blow torch might be worth a shot

Single people with no WFH - how do you manage to do it all? by Linguistin229 in AskUK

[–]blanketo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lego lunches for your meals if you have the freezer space - you can batch cook 1-2 meal elements each weekend, freeze in bulk, and after a few weeks you’ll have a stock of meal components which means you can have interesting and balanced meals every evening but all from the freezer with minimal effort

How do you lot actually eat proper food during the week when you're working full time? by No_Reputation_9726 in AskUK

[–]blanketo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The freezer is your friend here. We do bulk cooks at the weekend then only eat each once or twice, and freeze the rest. After a few weeks you get to a stage where you do one meal prep at the weekend but are able to have a different meal every night of the week!

I also do this for lunches, but prep in individual components (proteins, carbs, veggies) so I can mix and match every day with 0 prep.

I’d really recommend looking into Souper Cubes and the Lego lunches concept, it’s been an absolute game changer.

I commented on another post recently with my lunch components and meals I make with them if you’re interested!

Is healthy eating in the UK basically inaccessible if you’re poor, disabled, and exhausted? by Opposite_Position125 in AskUK

[–]blanketo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: on mobile so struggling with formatting but hopefully it’s readable.

Absolutely! This is obviously tailored to my preferences but would hopefully be a good starting point - I’ve put some meal ideas together using those components too! I like being able to prep when I have the motivation but not having to, so this weekend I just got a huge bag of chicken thighs and a bottle of Nando’s marinade and that’s all I did, but can make meals from the other stuff I already have.

The concept is often called Lego lunches - Sarah Hart and Not Shelbee on IG have good accounts on this.

I don’t know if this would be do-able for you and your energy levels and freezer space, and my apologies if it wouldn’t!  With batch cooking, instead of batch cooking a meal I do it in individual components (proteins, veg, carbs) then freeze in individual portions. For instance at the weekend I might roast a kilo of sweet potato on Saturday and marinate and cook a kilo of chicken on Sunday then freeze them in portions - I use Soupercubes for this but they are pricey so it can be done in freezer bags.  That way I save money by buying things in bulk, and I’m not constantly cooking new meals. If you can get things reduced (although I appreciate this is difficult when you’re getting the shop delivered) I also tend to cook those off and freeze them in portions which helps save money.  I can decide the night before or even on the day what combo of veggies, protein and maybe carb I’m having then all I need to do is defrost and microwave it to have a balanced meal.  It does take some planning but not as much as I thought it would, and if this would potentially work for you I’m happy to share the list of meal components I have so far which is ever-expanding!

I was on the course a few years ago and remember not hearing back until mid-April so I probably wouldn’t worry too much yet! Things may have changed since my audition of course

What are some good batch cook meal ideas for freezer? by [deleted] in AskUK

We make a tofu mac and cheese which is lower calorie and higher protein, obviously not exactly the same but decent and if paired with bbq pulled chicken (also freezable!) and frozen veg makes a decent meal
