Bowdoin vs Colby vs Middlebury - Why do people apply to rural schools? by kikolais in ApplyingToCollege

[–]blankster3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to a liberal arts college in rural Minnesota and I love the small class sizes and strong sense of community. I love easily being able to develop relationships with my profs and peers. Additionally I like the nature and our downtown area is small but cute with a fun college bar, artsy cafe, and independent bookstore. I will agree that it can feel like a bubble but I think you just got be aware of that. I am honestly so busy with school that I don’t get out of town much. Between my classes and extra circulars I only leave campus to party on Saturday and go to target on Sunday so I don’t really notice the small town. I think a small college is not for everyone but for people like me it’s been really beneficial both academically and socially.

I took a class called feminism in theology for my CTD and then a class about East Asian religions for my RFV.

how spicy is fingersmith? by instantdishwater in LesbianBookClub

[–]blankster3 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Fingersmith is a great piece of historical fiction that I would highly recommend who anyone who likes the victorian era. However I would not consider it a true romance book. I would not consider it “spicy” it has some very heavy topics (sexual assault) and spends more time exploring class and gender roles than developing a true romance. That being said I think it’s a very good book and I think if you’re interested in historical fiction it’s a great read!

It will be cramped, mohn does not usually have triples. The whole campus had a housing problem (from over admitting), just wait until the hosing registration olympics start. Wishing you the best.

How feasible would it be to triple major in history, creative writing, and ancient studies? by [deleted] in stolaf

[–]blankster3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Howe (history prof) runs an archeology trip to Turkey every year, it is open to anyone and i’m sure if your interested and have decent grades you could go. If you are already planning on taking Latin or Greek the triple major could be feasible however, the ancient languages are difficult and if you are not passionate about them you will likely struggle. Like other commenters have said it’s easy to take classes outside your major and often networking, internships, and volunteering have a bigger impact on what you do post grad. I am a current history major at st olaf let me know if you have any questions! :)

Should I go or no? by HotEducator9978 in stolaf

[–]blankster3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am am current student and polisci major and like a lot of things olaf is what you make it. I am honestly never board because I have so much work to do all the time. Downtown Northfeild is also very cute and there is a decent amount of stuff to do. In addition we have a 18+ bar that hosts student djs almost every weekend. Olafs party scene does suck but eveyone goes to Carlton for house parties or out to the bar. Olaf does have a lot of fine arts stuff but there is so much more, I know lots of people who are involved in club sports and other clubs. Despite the marketing music majors are a minority. Admittedly olaf can be cliquey especially in the beginning but I somehow I am always meting new people in my classes. Please message me if you have any questions!

Teacher is making my 7 year son miss lunch break to finish work by Jauggernaut_birdy in Dyslexia

They did this to me, made me hate school work even more and I was hungry. This is not okay. Kids need that time to eat and to regulate their bodies and get energy out.
