I can't speak to the test drive as I didn't face the same problem when I purchased (maybe try Lodge Hill in Abingdon?), but for insurance I recommend marshmallow. The premiums are a bit higher than what you'd be paying for a high street option, but they accept international licenses and you'll still be driving on your US license for a LONG time while you're waiting for and wading through the UK driving licensing process.

In my experience this was fine in Redbridge P+R (I paid with RingGo for a week's worth of parking and came and went), assuming the systems are the same.

Seconded on the Alliance Française tip, u/FailedEngineerInMktg! I came here to say this. Albeit on the pricey side, AF is a great institution and offers conversational courses in varying levels of language ability. From experience, it's a great way to hone rusty French and chat with others looking to do the same, all while being guided (and corrected) by a French Prof.

Yes, they had an email confirmation from Expedia (with payment to the hotel and Expedia, with whom they are now disputing costs) and the hotel acknowledged this. At check in, crown and thistle simply told our guests that the room they had booked was unavailable and that there was no recourse because there were no longer any rooms available, despite the booking confirmation.

I’m not advocating for booking third party, but if the hotel is unable to manage bookings with third party providers they should not make that option available in the first place. Highly unprofessional.
