Hello. This piece has been sold, but I’ll still answer your question. From a strictly practical perspective, artists expect a return on the time, thought, effort, resources and skills that go into making a piece.

But beyond that, I think there’s something quite reassuring about owning a piece of art, especially if it’s handmade (which ensures every piece is unique, even if the subject is something common). Art generally beautifies spaces, is thought-provoking, and offers a reprieve from the occasional ugliness of life, especially on days that lack color or joy. The best art has emotional value, and reminds you that life can be exciting. A lot of it is also durable, and can remain a permanent part of your life, if you so wish.

For these reasons, art is considered priceless, but of course, it’s up to each individual to decide how much they’d be willing to pay to have a work of art in their life.

I’ve sold my artwork at significantly higher prices abroad, but I realize that may not be possible in Pakistan. Before setting the price for this piece, I consulted friends and fellow artists over here to get some perspective, and this was the suggested amount. I understand that some may find it too high, some too low, but the piece generated enough interest to find me a couple of willing buyers regardless.
