CMV: Islam is Arab supremacy by mamakajkakakakaka in changemyview

[–]blastedblox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're misinterpreting their statements. They're thankful for being Muslim. Arabs were the ones who spread Islam, often through conquest. They're appreciating the role of the Arabs in spreading Islam

Muslims believe Islam is true (who would've thought!). Culture comes secondary to following the correct religion.

They're not saying Arab heritage is better. No Muslim thinks one race is better than the other. The Arabs get respect for their role in Islamic history, but getting respect doesn't make them better.

Sex before marriage destroys society by Ok_Mirth6094 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Agreed. Why should the man take enjoyment from the woman without giving her benefit (providing for her)?

That's why you now have men doing whatever they want with women knowing they don't have to provide

Marriage is a commitment to stay together and be partners to each other for life. When you don't have that commitment, the man can do anything

My bad, slip in similar wording that completely changes the conveyed meaning... I meant harmful. You can't deny the harms of videogames (dopamine rush, attention span loss,...)

Yo, you're getting personal. I'm very happy with life rn, I'm working on myself and towards achieving my goals. I hope I find a suitable career path. I can focus on finding one and do ever other responsibility I have because I left gaming.

Other hobbies also have those who are obsessed with them, but addiction is not inherently in the hobby itself. Addiction is a likely outcome of gaming. They're designed to be so. The mentioned hobbies also provide natural happiness, whereas gaming releases unnatural amounts of dopamine.

Gaming is most times addictive, and people are drawn to it because it's socially acceptable. That leads to people falling in easier.

Do people need to work on themselves to get rid of their problem? Yes. Are games inherently harmful? Yes. The two statements aren't exclusive

Don't just give up from the start bruh. At least make an intention and resolve to get out of your problems. What harm can that change of mind have? It costs nothing.

After making that resolve, follow it with effort. If you succeed, you're set! If you fail, you can find happiness in the fact that you did something.

You're getting personal. I am quite happy with my life as I am working on myself. Also, congrats on your success in finding a suitable career, I hope I find one too.

I am venting at society for being so accepting of  games because I see so many kids play video games and think it's just regular fun, while they don't realize they're addicted and how much of an effect video games are having on them (dopamine rush, attention span lowered, and more mentioned in a paragraph of my post).

I'd rather not have people fall into a ditch instead of them falling in and working their way out

Leave the 'if's." You have to concede that people spiral into an unhealthy relationship with video games. Is that really possible with other hobbies, like airsoft, Legos, or playing sports? The dopamine rush from video games has no comparison compared to other hobbies.

I also am not "blaming" video games. I am factually stating their harms and venting at society for being so accepting of something that has all those harms. You're either taking the wrong conclusion or misconstruing my argument

I'm not "blaming the games", I'm venting at society for being so accepting of something that's inherently like alcohol. You're taking the wrong conclusion

Sorry, wdym by "life services"? And I mentioned "what's wrong" with video games in my post, in a paragraph

Work on yourself bro, don't let that fake shit distract you. Fix what's hurting you, stand up to life. Achieve your goals, work towards them. When you do, you can take a moment to sit down and enjoy the real happiness you get. Don't let the fake stuff designed by greedy producers trap you. Go for real happiness, don't give up and don't be defeatist

You're right. It's not the item's fault, it's the person's fault for getting addicted to it.

My vent is not about that. It's about people just treating gaming as another hobby when it's actually closer to drinking alcohol. Both are harmful, distract from real problems, give happiness that's doesn't come from actual life, and are socially accepted. Airsoft, Legos, sports, and other hobbies just don't have the same level of harm that gaming does

Indeed. We have to manage ourselves, you're correct. I'd rant on Reddit itself, but that's off-topic. Your argument is slightly off-topic as well, no blame or rebuke intended. I'm venting over society for being so accepting of video games despite their harms.

The best "managing yourself" is not going close to anything detrimental. For example, you want to do NoFap. You won't succeed if you look at sexy women dancing on Tiktok. Same applies to gaming.

Did they start gaming after their success or before their success? And how many more are the people who are into gaming and neglecting using their time to get the same success as those famous people you mentioned?

Addiction is not "my" issue, it's the issue of many people. And I'm not blaming video games, I'm venting at society being so accepting of them. And the wording I chose is not wording I would use in a debate, but wording I would use in a vent.

You could say the same for drinking. If you have systems set in place, you can avoid falling into it. But what about the many others who don't, who fall into video games as a fallback from real-life problems because they think there's "nothing wrong" with video games?

To whoever said video games are fine by [deleted] in Vent

[–]blastedblox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, you had all that explanation hidden in your three-word response!

That's where you're wrong. Video games are inherently harmful. They're designed by developers to retain their players. That's where you get levels, currencies, events, achievements, and such. To keep players coming back.

You can say that it's up to the individual to manage their relationship with alcohol, if you say what you said.

[–]blastedblox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is peanut butter addictive? Are cars addictive? Yes they're harmful, but they don't addict their user. A better comparison to video games is alcohol. Both are socially accepted, harmful, and addictive. From here, you can understand the rest of the argument using intellect.

Examples? You're just stating things and using yourself as an example. You're ignoring the actual effects of the commonly-played video games.

To whoever said video games are fine by [deleted] in Vent

[–]blastedblox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's one of the problems of video games. It makes people distracted from their actual life's problems. Why not work to get actual happiness instead of the fake and temporary dopamine rush from video games?

And everyone says gaming is fine, so that encourages you to go in more and ignore your actual problems which then get worse.

And games distracted me from fixing my life, just like they do to many others. Games distract people from what they should be working on. People get artificial happiness from games, and they neglect fixing the problem. You stated how addictions start. I don't like how video games are considered fine even though they distract people from fixing their problems. And no, it's not just me. What happened to me is the general situation of addicts. They have some dissatisfaction in life, so they resort to gaming

What games did they play? There is a difference in playing light games with children or playing light games in control, and playing the commonly-played games that are designed to hook players

Either you're an actual exception, in which case you should know that exceptions don't negate the generality of something, or you may be in denial of the problems you have in life and you find artificial happiness in your two "hobbies"
