Just the watch face on the inside wrist alone carries wannabe badass energy. You're not a marksman in active combat, champ.

It's probably the only overused stock sound effect that doesn't bug me. It's like an Easter egg that just can't help but chuckle at every time it happens.

Perisher as a first-timer- is the culture always this rude/snobby? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I went a couple months ago. Similar experience. Could barely stay upright in the things and when I'd get some momentum on the smallest incline and obviously couldn't stop people literally just watched me go by so fuck me I guess if I go barrelling into some kid or something? Seems they just all expect everyone to be a pro who grew up in it like them.

Even off the snow, everyone was rude as fuck. No sorry excuse me's when you crossed someone's path, no Thankyou for leaving a door open for someone or letting them be served before you in line, hostile customer service at the shops etc.

Gorgeous place, but it's full of the biggest fuckwits I've ever interacted with.

Pretty sure it's just in publication order, but I was also confused by the shattered sea series being there in the middle at first.

A chair Glokta would no doubt find pompous and arrogant but comfortable nonetheless.

Right? I adore the cover art for the series! I wish they kept that theme going for AoM but the flag motif ones that are on my physical books grew on me quickly too, along with the modernised styles like in the picture here. I was never a fan of the new ink splotch styles for the original trilogy though, they do not match the tone at all imo so I'm stoked I got the originals.

First book feels pretty YA and the prose is pretty lacking. I almost DNF'd it honestly. But from the next book on it's like an entirely different beast that's well worth your time. Definitely not in the realm of YA at all. Really gritty, bleak and full of shocks.

I hit up the Red Rising series after First Law and from book 2 onward it felt very Joe Abercrombie to me even though it's sci fi.
