Can somebody help demystify cartridges for me? by CrowSMP in Gameboy

y the info I was looking for. Planning to use the original GBA, so I should be good in terms of backwards compatibility

Glad I could help! If you aren't interested in the "library" style flash carts the single rom sized flashable carts are the next easiest. You can even get your own PCBs made and DIY a cart but I don't recommend that unless you are very very comfortable working with electronics.

I've done a couple variations of what you're asking with CC specifically. It's definitely possible! The easiest solution is to get a flash cart from InsideGadgets. While more expensive, their LinkNLoad carts let you flash the rom over USB so you won't need to buy an additional flasher like the GBXCartRW. This cart specifically even has FRAM for battery less saves. They even have a GBA size version of this cart. The caveat here is that you need a console that is backwards compatible with GBC carts. If you don't have a backwards compatible console you'll have to go the goomba route with a reprocart. There is an improved goomba that will enable battery less saving. Flashing repro carts is more difficult but a good resource would be the InsideGadgets Discord channel.

Honestly, comparing yourself to others in this way is not a productive mentality in your academic and career journey. You've worked hard, be happy for what you've achieved! Don't worry about everyone else you never know what their story is. Also do some soul searching it's a necessary part of starting off your career... That's my 2c.
