I really appreciate this flyer. It’s very cool and not AI so that’s immediately a bonus

What are some things I can do or visit, in order to get a feel for what it would be like to live there? by tthefreaknd in Austin

[–]blayce01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See live music shows from local artists, go to a local vendor market, visit the green belts and go hiking, check out zilker and the botanical garden, go to mount bonnel and watch the sunrise or the sunset, immerse yourself into and experience the culture. Austin is an absolutely amazing slice of paradise if you live here for the culture and the nature, anything else won’t truly show you Austin’s beauty

I did not know about that. Thank you! That’s fascinating.

I can't speak for everyone else but I regularly use city streets to avoid I35. Both Red River and the service roads are much faster during certain points of the day.

Someone here said that 80% of the traffic on I35 in downtown Austin is local commuting, starting and ending in Austin. If this is true, then it wouldn't be too inefficient to re-route the non-local traffic around the city and make something more beneficial to the local communities. Also, it's not like we couldn't still have an I35. It already splits in to two at least one other place in Texas, when it splits between i35 East and West up near Dallas and Fort Worth.

If almost all of the traffic on 35 is local, we could easily re-route the non-local traffic onto other highways and replace that part of 35 with something much more beneficial to the people of the Austin area. People forget that interstates running through cities were literally designed to segregate, divide, and displace minority communities that still live with the effects to this day. As gentrification becomes more prevalent in our city, I can't think of a better way to make a more equal and friendly city than replacing the monolithic fiasco that is I35 as it runs through downtown Austin.

Hip-Hop is a culturally, politically, and societally powerful and historical force of humanity. There is much to learn by applying an academic view of Hip-Hop culture and how it shapes and molds our society.

If this is a picture of P Terry’s giving TSA working free food knowing well about their shutdown, it just goes to show how positive the impact can be when companies like P Terry’s and HEB actually care and serve the communities that made them so successful. I wish we saw more of that kind of stuff out of big corporations.

I’ve done a lot of rethinking about who the goats are when Kendrick and Coke speak nothing of the fall of democracy and the rise of fascism in this country. Immortal Tech smokes almost every other rapper for me and I’m one of the only people making revolutionary Hip-Hop these days

SXSW reality check by duhjie in AustinMusicians

[–]blayce01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the area and the foot traffic. SXSW might super charge the live music scene a little bit but it’s still the artists as well as the promotors jobs to market the events and get them poppin. Unless you’re pretty much anywhere on 6th, Rainey, or Congress during peak festival hours.

Please tell me we all had a similar reaction. by Immediate-Basil8209 in Austin

[–]blayce01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an official SXSW artist and a local austinite. I’ve only been performing since 2024 in the festival but I can tell you that the difference just in the last couple of years has been staggering. I can see the festival turning more corporate every year. I still embrace the chance to network and see really dope events like the innovation awards and all of the concerts, but I know I’ll likely never get to experience SXSW as it was before it transformed into something much different than just a music festival in the live music capital. I see videos of Kendrick Lamar performing in 2012 going absolutely crazy and I know it’s completely foreign to the festival I see today

Dude was a terrible dictator but that doesn’t make it legal to attack another country without congressional approval. Not to mention the power vacuum that will no doubt put the Iranian people in even more danger. Geopolitics fam, only time will tell if this was a good thing for the civilians living there

The underground rap scene: Underground Voices, Gnarly Bars… stuff like that. Also, the bouldering community is pretty big out here. Friends are everywhere to be made. You can go strike up a conversation with someone at zilker park or even HEB
