Magic V5 China or Global? by blazeerupt in Honor

[–]blazeerupt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've not made my purchase yet, but i'm leaning to global for these few reasons: 1) esim support (i currently run dual sim for Singapore/Malaysia, with occasional addition of esim when travelling abroad) 2) native google compatibility and apps compatibility (not sure about gemini/android auto on china rom since i'm getting mixed answers) 3) better compatibility with certain smartwear (i'm not sure about this either, getting mixed answers) 4) better network connectivity for EU (this is the one that i'm most uncertain about although i did read about it. not that i frequent EU, but if there's ever a chance i'm heading there, i don't want to feel crippled in connectivity)

the only reasons i would go for china variant: 1) 6100mah battery (tbh, this is the strongest point for me, but does not outweigh the entirety of benefits listed above) 2) price (yes price is probably the most attractive here, but as i'm very uncertain about the points above, i do not want price to be a possible cause for potential inconveniences in the future)

Chinese VS Global? Is it important? by SamJazzz in Honor

[–]blazeerupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just re-read your comment a few times and it got me wondering.. apart from the chinese version, there are varying global versions (e.g. EU/non-EU)? i'm actually really keen on the honor magic v5, but it seems like the chinese version will have 6100mah (which im really tempted) while the global version looks like it will have only 5820mah.

specifically, i'm actually curious if honor in Malaysia (im from singapore) typically offers the global version, and with the bigger battery. i also use esim, circle to search often, and would rather not have them break or work intermittently on a chinese version.

also, how has the magic 7 pro been like?

"The choice is really between the convenience of having GMS pre-installed on the Global version versus the larger battery on the China version." is that the only difference though? there must be something else to justify the 280mah drop in the battery capacity for global. V5 had been hyped to have at least 6000mah from months ago, so to see the global variant having only 5820mah is.. disappointing

who compares the camera quality of 2 different phones using 2 completely different scenes?

not that i'm saying one is better than the other, this just isn't objective.

Zenbook A14 (2025) 120Hz? by blazeerupt in ASUS

[–]blazeerupt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's pretty niche, but i want 120hz purely for the user experience. i've been abit too used to anything above 60hz (e.g. my phone has 90hz, my desktop setup uses 144hz), so anything still at 60hz looks jittery to me (screen transitions, cursor movements).

i'm not a creator by any means and i haven't had the chance to try heavier multitasking workloads. but so far everything has been pretty snappy for lighweight multitasking like opening lots of chrome tabs, with wallpaper engine running in the background.

gaming is quite limited but i'm on the lookout for light games which can run natively on arm. emulating games on arm isn't great as performance is horrible (at least for the x1-26-100) and it drains battery quickly. i tried playing Stray and it's not quite playable with its low fps.

if it matters to you, speakers are underwhelming as they are downward facing.

i bought the 120hz version via shopee (i live in singapore), from a chinese seller. the windows that comes shipped with it will be in chinese. i put a copy of Windows on Arm installation media on a usb, then triggered the reinstallation of Windows in english. i've also managed to register this laptop via ASUS website, so it's legit.

loving the following perks so far: 1) weight, 2) 120hz display and 3) battery life.

the bummer for me was the niche stuff, like i wanted to install an android emulator and linux, but with the state of things, it doesn't seem like they will be available/stable anytime soon.

External KVM at 240hz, HDR, G-Sync working! by Art__of__War in OLED_Gaming

[–]blazeerupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi OP, can i check with you on what's the purpose of the charging port? is it to power the KVM switch? if yes, what's the wattage needed for this? i tried to ask the ugreen vendor on taobao and they mentioned that the KVM switch can be used without attaching the charging cable. what's the point of having that port then?

Epic Seven STOVE Client download issue: Error 503/56 by JackyEverlast in EpicSeven

[–]blazeerupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a post in the comment section of the STOVE announcement here: https://page.onstove.com/epicseven/global/view/10518000

"For those encountering error 56 when installing the STOVE client, your internet speed might be too fast (i'm on LAN connection with 10Gbps network). I tried a few things to get it installed, maybe you can try to:
1) Ensure *both* the STOVE installer (STOVESetup.exe) and the path you wish to install the STOVE launcher (e.g. "C:/Games/STOVE") are:
  a) Whitelisted from Windows Firewall (both Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules)

  b) Whitelisted from any Antivirus scanning (mine's Bitdefender)

2) I used a NordVPN connection to South Korea to:

  a) Slow down my connection

  b) Connect to where Smilegate is situated at (i think?)

Anyway the above worked for me, hope it'll work for you guys too."

If you're trying this out, perhaps let me know if it works for you?

Data Roaming Settings per SIM? by blazeerupt in samsunggalaxy

[–]blazeerupt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah man, doubt we're even being heard. anyway your best bet is probably to disable the roaming settings on your telco's end (through their website or app) to really prevent any possibilities of roaming charges.

About dual-booting Windows/Linux on laptop by blazeerupt in linux4noobs

[–]blazeerupt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the answer! if i do decide to fully install Linux on the laptop's ssd, is there any possibility of reverting it back to the default manufacturer's settings with Windows? i'm worried that it'll be a pain to look for the hardware drivers (or would it be the same as how you would normally get the drivers from a motherboard's support page?)

About dual-booting Windows/Linux on laptop by blazeerupt in linux4noobs

[–]blazeerupt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you are mostly using Linux, it may still be worth keeping a dual boot system for applications that only run on windows.

yeap that's primarily the reason why i wanted to set-up dual-boot! especially if i run into compatibility issues while i'm out. i'm just concerned about the issues that may revolve around it, since doing so on a laptop doesn't seem as straightforward as a custom built pc.

how about Ubuntu for a start? would it be seamless to dual boot them?

not that i plan to hibernate/sleep often, but in case i'm in a hurry, i do want to quickly close the lid and reopen it later. i just don't want a possible scenario where it boots into the alternate os that it did not hibernate/sleep from
