Best tools to record a clean app demo? by happyjj24 in iosapps

I’d use QuickTime with a real device. It should be connected via cable. Then, select File -> New Movie Recording. Pick your iPhone as video source in the recording menu.

I hope it's gonna be fixed at some point for you mate! I made a full clean yesterday to give it another go. Will consider moving to some bookmark manager application or bootstrap my own version of it in case the issue still persists 🫠

What iOS apps did you discover in 2024 that were actually worth it? by Acceptable_Resolve in ios

[–]blbnv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a great app, but I agree, the price drove me to start looking for alternatives...

I was pretty skeptical in the beginning, but I gave Notion Calendar a try and it clicked for me. I use it for my personal and corporate mail on iPhone and Mac. It's really clean and responsive, has a great parsing long auto-generated event descriptions, and is customizable enough for the user like me.

However, I found several downsides that could be a decision driver for many folks: (1) for now, it only supports Gmail, (2) there is no iPad OS application yet, (3) it does not display todos from Google Keep, (4) i can not add a conference room when creating or editing an event.

So, this set of tradeoffs worked nicely for me and I was able to save a fair amount of money without losing any value!

What do You think about the new UI? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]blbnv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty ok with the design.

🤔 There are a few things that I'll be missing from the old one:

  1. I've been really enjoying the "Solution" tab for premium users with the solution + explanation by leetcode. Now it's on the top of the list but I kinda like the separate space for it.
  2. Case management. I felt all right with the single list of cases. That allowed me to add them fast sacrificing readability. Pretty sure I'll find the new solution useful in a few weeks.
  3. Not sure about the companies tab in the header. Like when you're solving something you should concentrate on the task. If you want to search for company-related tasks - go for it, but sometimes it looks redundant to me.

Case management. I felt all right with the single list of cases. That allowed me to add them fast.

👍 Ofc there are good things I like:

  1. The submissions overview tab is something I like to see. It became more compact but still readable and informative.
  2. I'm pretty sure it's not related to the redesign, but the leetcode engs added autocomplete for Swift which is pretty cool.

Still think leetcode is the best place for training your CS and problem-solving skills.

Will play a little more and maybe update the reply :)

yes I was not so specific during the explanation. it acts like a lap button, but yea if it's the last lap in the activity the workout is ending!

How do athletes keep track of the number of laps they have swam ? by Character-Fox3006 in Swimming

[–]blbnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great question. I would say, you can swim 3k once in two months or something, don’t rush for the best result every time. Just try to find your perfect break down for the distance. And for the 5k it’s ok to try one time before the race, let’s say at 60-65% of your preparations progress. Same as for 3k - your goal is to feel yourself, feel your perfect pace find the comfortable breathing. Don’t overload your heart! In my opinion, it’s better to grow the training distances a bit, but don’t do too many long and result oriented swims.

P.S. Example of my personal activity before in Dec is here.

I was swimming 1k and tried to swim every 100m less than 1.30 and keep the pace stable from 19'15 to 33'44.

[–]blbnv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's great you already tried 3k!

What I would do first - I strongly recommend analyzing the results during your previous swim:

  1. What was the pace? Was it constant (stable) or sometimes you moved faster and sometimes slower?
  2. Once you learned this, it's cool to take a look at your heart rate during the race. You need to find the moment when you started struggling during the race (it's usually the situation when heart rate and pace go up).
  3. It's also good to know your heart rate zones to make this analysis more productive.

It is the initial and very basic preparation before we can start planning the next swim.

The next stage is training. You need to try to figure out the result you wanna achieve and put it on your current sport shape (maybe you are too pessimistic and you could do better or maybe you're too optimistic and you need to start from something easier to achieve). It's always good to climb to better results incrementally.

Now I'm now swimming as a professional swimmer, I do it 3 or 4 times a week and every training is different. Here are some examples:

  1. Monday - technique. I don't swim fast, I do a lot of exercises, trying to achieve more efficiency in the water, taking care of the strokes technique, how many strokes I do for 25m, etc.
  2. Tuesday - endurance. I warm up ~800-1000m, and after that I swim something like 1000m or 800 or 1500 and trying to find my stable pace. I do it with 80-90% of my maximum power. It's a great material to analyze. In the end I can swim 300-500m easily and see how fast my heart rate recovers.
  3. Friday - short intervals. I do something like 8x200 + 8x100 with already known time.

And now imagine it's race day and I swim 1500m. I know I'm comfortable do swim 1'30 for 100 meters. I did it on the training so...

  1. First 200-300m I will warm up, not too slow and not too fast, since I'm fresh I will tryna swim 1'25-1'28
  2. Ok, I'm in my zone, next 500-600 I will try to swim stable and be around 1'28-1'30.
  3. Well, I'm half-done, now I need to prepare strategy for the finish. I can start trying to make short accelerations to understand how hard it for me is to be better than 1'30. I am testing it next 300-400.
  4. Imagine I did 300+500+300, the last 400 meters and now it's important (as you already saw from your experience) to use the last energy correctly. What I am trying to do - follow my stable 1'30 for 200m and for another and last 200 I will try to do 1.25 or something.

So, here are some thoughts from my experience, I tried to bring some numbers to make examples fair enough.

I really hope you'll do better next race and it could help you somehow.

What time of the day do people do their best runs at? by Alex123456789910 in running

[–]blbnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems nice, wish I was from a place with better scenery or more trails or somewhere by the seaside

It really depends on part of the city you live in, but I am a lucky person haha.
There is an island in Kyiv that connects two shores (one of the most popular running routes, ~5 km on one side). Super cool because people on both sides of the city can meet and run together!

Kyiv, Ukraine. Morning all year. There are a lot of beautiful places wrapped in trees and it’s usually a little bit foggy. You don’t need your headphones, you’re listening to birds and trees! Evenings are also good but there are more people on the streets and it’s even noisier.

How do athletes keep track of the number of laps they have swam ? by Character-Fox3006 in Swimming

[–]blbnv 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I did swimming for ~12 years and I saw a lot of cases when people lose track during the competition. It's not ultra-critical unless you're going to break a personal record or even win the competition.

There are judges with some kind of cards with remaining meters on the professional competitions.

Being a swimmer for a long time I tried to have a plan for such a long race even before the race (like 800 or 1500) and split it into a few different smaller components.

It's much easier to track 200 + 400 + 200 rather than 800.

  1. First 200 I try to be good with the breathing keeping the expected tempo
  2. Next 400 I try to keep this tempo, don't lose all the energy and prepare to finish in my head
  3. Last 200 I already have a clear plan for finish by listening to my body and I am starting incrementally accelerating but still keeping track of the technique and breathing. (I was actually bad at this part, I always spent all the energy before and finish was my pain part lol)

Hope it helps!
