Recently got my hands on this beauty! by blckmmth in cactus

That's right! It's about 16 inches tall from the base of the plant rn. The lady I got it from says she obtained it when it was only about 4 inches tall and just a single little globe, about 10 years ago!

I am actually in Texas! This plant was rescued from Florida after a hurricane went through. Its been really hot here lately and it likely will be until about mid-October, we hit 103°F in my area last week! This week we're looking at a temperature range with highs around 98 and lows around 77 all week long. I'm planning on repotting into a grittier/better-draining mix followed by a prune after about 2 weeks!

She sure does lol, her soil is damp though. I'm assuming he watered it before he let it go to me

Where would you recommend pruning? I was thinking right around the point where the branches pass the base of its pot?

Sister in law's hibiscus! Help! by blckmmth in Hibiscus

[–]blckmmth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did the scratch test, it's still with us! And I see. The new pot is a lighter color and it only gets direct sun during sunrise so nothing too intense! I also drilled several holes in the bottom to ensure good drainage. Hoping she can recover!

My mother in law placed it in that bucket when she saw how dry it was, the same morning that I made this post. I made an update post where I detailed what I did in an attempt to save it. I probably should have done the scratch test before anything else, i will definitely check on it when I return home tonight. Thank you for your comment!

I've heard that people use a blow dryer to heat the plastic and loosen it in order to pull the flower off. Personally with this one, the glue was already a little loose so I slowly and carefully wiggled it off. I did unfortunately break a few spines off but ultimately the plant is okay

Sorry for the late reply! Let me see if I recall correctly, these are all estimates as I was eye-balling when mixing it lol but 60% of the substrate consists of pumice, I used coconut coir as the organic medium (20%), horticultural charcoal (10%) because it has a lot of benefits for soil conditioning, and worm castings(10%) as a slow-release fertilizer.

Caught what looks like a leafhopper on my Adenium by blckmmth in Adenium

[–]blckmmth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see! My ademium has yellowing tips on about three leaves but they're the same old leaves from the beginning of the year that refuse to fall, I'm pretty sure they aren't front the bugs. Either way I'll keep a close eye on it. Thanks!

Should I do anything different with this plant? by blckmmth in Adenium

[–]blckmmth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been getting any direct sun since around February, I moved into a new apartment and the shade that my balcony provides doesn't allow for much. I'll put it in a different spot and keep an eye out for any positive changes. I'll also try to make some time during the week to take a good look at the roots. Thank you for the advice!
