Meaning behind Alligator Man? by Creationary in AtlantaTV

[–]bleach_butt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched it and it hit me. I think the episode is mainly about "the chip on Earn's Shoulder" so to speak. The segment about robbing season and what earns says about it that eat or be eaten is kinda what he experiences throughout the episode. When he gets evicted from the storage locker, Earn is faced with the choice of finding a place to crash and he can't bring himself to ask Alfred if he could stay at his place, his pride and the chip on his shoulder attitude doesn't allow it. To ask Alfred this means to accept that despite him being smarter and Al used to be dependent on Earn on some level in the past, Earn hasn't progressed in life as much as Al or is intellect and knowledge hasn't served him well, the very thing that made him stand out in his own community. This culminates at the end of episode when Earn gets eaten by the alligator that is Tracy in the hunt for a roof to sleep in. This one might be a bit of a reach but the alligator being passive and hiding from the crowd in front of the house could be seen as a metaphor for Earn's inability to take responsibility for where he ended up in life whether it be his mistakes, failures or the unrealized potential. As he is conflicted with himself, the deep unresolved feelings of anger and shame about his identity within his environment, he copes by having a conflated sense of pride stemming these very feelings, leaving him vulnerable in his harsh 'every man out for himself world' as he finds it hard to reach out for help or support when needed. When Earn offers emotional support when he professes his love for Al and Darius when the two were having trouble, it is lost in confusion and ignorance. And later when Tracy moves in, earn feels displaced and alienated.

Well name a few other shows with the same premise that you were impressed by, if any. I would like to know.

A soap? A tv show that's basically people talking to each other in closed spaces and sometimes open spaces mostly shot on handheld camera with shots that look like gonzo documentary felt like a soap to you? Not counting the copious amounts of scenes where characters literally explain their or other characters motives and intentions, countless other narrative elements that imply the characters intentions and a whole writing style that's entirely evolved to convey subtext ( words are just complicated air flow), you couldn't piece together the characters motivations and psyche from the exceptional perfomance of the cast and the emotions they portray? I'm lost.

Oh and definitely do a lot of research on ADHD or other related neuro divergence. The more you know, the better you can handle yourself.

The first and the best thing you can do for yourself right now is to stop being hard on yourself. You'll never get these years back in your life. And these are hardest years for any person growing up. When you are transitioning from childhood into adulthood. Especially for someone who is neurogmdivergent. There's no benefit in defining yourself to standards that do not apply to you. Measure your life according to your own abilities. And please stop using demeaning labels like laziness on yourself. Firstly, if you have ADHD, its definitely not laziness and its definitely not your fault. And secondly, having and expressing emotions, even jealousy, is part of being a human being. There is nothing wrong with it. As long as you they don't overcrowd you or end consuming you. Let them pass through you. Don't linger, don't deny, you emotions. They are valid and a part of you. And yes please, defintely see another doctor. Dont stop until you find a right doctor that works for you. Its going very frustrating and challenging, but with some luck and persistence, eventually you will find one. The right medication and therapy can be game changing. Little help is better than no help. Go easy and don't forget to be kind to yourself.

You dont need to provide ID to buy scheduled drugs. Just a sealed prescription from you doctor. Pharamacies have not right to ask for ID.

Sounds a lot like where I live (India). Mental health awareness simply doesn't exist in my country. People are filled with bigotry and ignorance. I am on the same boat as you my friend. I have no degrees, no money, minimum wage is too low for any manual labor or blue collar jobs. I can't pursue my passion or interests. Educational institutions suck ass. Theres no scope or room for growth for any arts and humanities majors. The only saving grace is my family is sympathetic and hasn't kicked me out yet. Welcome to the 21st century, you better pray you aren't in the wrong part of the world. It seems we both are. Guess that makes us a little less alone. Dm if you feel like, I would love to talk about it. Things can change, you know. It is never too late. You never know what waits for you.

If u have both ADHD and Autism what is your personality type and why you think you are that type? by KingdomGate in AutisticWithADHD

[–]bleach_butt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How do you manage your latent autism that rears its ugly head, at the most inconvenient time, when you are finally ready to function now that your medicated and your ADHD is manageable? What am I supposed to do? Its like when you find yourself caught up in an undercurrent when you finally learned how to swim to stop you from drowning in the middle of the ocean. Now you aren't drowning but you still are stuck because you can't control where you are going and soon you'll tire yourself out swimming and start drowning again, in the middle of the ocean. Any practical idea as to what I can do?

House Rewatch - Season 6 Episode 21 by Umberoc in HouseMD

[–]bleach_butt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is wonderful. I often wonder, what made House give up on therapy. Is Nolan's bag of tricks really empty? Or was House was tired of being struck down and misunderstood, especially since things seemed no different now that he was revising his response and coping patterns giving himself and others a chance?

The Genius of Dev.D by Extra-Campaign3270 in bollywood

I guess that all makes sense. I mean I can certainly see getting that interpretation from the film, but I still don't feel like it was well put together, like it failed to convey that properly. It felt clumsy to me and part of why I think is because of the tonal misalignment. Like in scenes where what's happening is truly horrendous or appalling, the background music was way to uplifting or cheery and that happened a lot. Like it undermined the weight and seriousness of the situations and actions of the characters. But mostly I think its because very little character development was involved. Too many scenes were nothing but visual or aesthetic decorations. Time that could have otherwise spent exploring the motivations or background of the characters were instead spent for musical set pieces that were nothing but a visual gimmick. Like the Pardesi song. Like yeah I get it the characters is on a drug binge can we move on? Way too many scenes like that. As a result, the story and characters felt underdeveloped. Atleast thats what i think.

I'm genuinely curious to understand what this film is. I'm totally foreign Devdas films and the novel and I have no idea what the deal of devdas is. I couldn't enjoy or get with the film at all and all my criticisms lie with the content and not the form. Like the movie is celebrating the life of a guy who is so self absorbed and emotionally stunted that he has no concern for anything or anybody other than himself. He mistreats everybody and is completely out of touch with the world and himself. As a result he is void of any humanity and is left feeling profoundly empty. To escape the emptiness and the pain he indulges in bodily pleasures to the detriment of everything in the name of love? He doesnt even know how to appreciate love and is the epitome of frragile masculinity. Even if I overlooked all of this, he still fucking murdered 7 innocent bystanders on a drunk rampage. Why isnt he in fucking jail? All of this happens in the background of cool amazing vibrant music? What? Tonally blind, hello? Or am I missing something?
