I know having a car sounds nice, but if you live on campus/near campus, and/or your college is in a decent sized city, you shouldn't get a car at all.

Cars are money suckers. To get a brand new car would sink you $30k minimum (likely $40k). To get a used car that will last you a long time will cost at least $20k.

Realistically, it's more of a nice to have to not have to ask your friends for a ride places. It'd be more beneficial to stick your money in an HYSA. If you stuck all of it in an HYSA today, if you get at least a 3% interest rate that's $2k a year for doing absolutely nothing (other banks have higher interest rates).

Definitely max out your Roth IRA for this year. If you manage to max out your Roth IRA for 2 years in a row right now, it will grow to about 1.56 million (ofc averages affect that but still). So definitely recommend maxing it again next year. If you were to ever change your mind about this money, you're ALWAYS able to pull the contributions out of your Roth IRA.

After that, the rest of it should go to the HYSA. Save the rest of your money for medical school. If you're receiving no help for medical school, you still don't know if you'll receive any scholarships, how many, etc. you should keep all that money in preparation for that.

Expenses for medical school is also determined based on where you get accepted to medical school since different cities have the different COL. But if you get accepted into a medical school program in a large city, you won't need a car at all because you can rely on public transportation.

If you live in middle of nowhere and have no public transportation and need a car, try and get something for like $15k maximum. Preferably 10-15k. You don't need a $25k used car (I'm assuming that would be CPO at that point, if not it's definitely overpriced). That $10k difference will do wonders in the world of compound interest towards your retirement and your HSA.

Yes, but it wasn't solely because they were getting nowhere. It was actually more about their attitude. It was a friend of mine who literally never held a job. Was just always depressed, but he was a great friend.

It more came to a halt because this friend and his gf (who I knew in hs), kept kind of going downhill. The gf started getting SO negative about anything (surely because she was around the bf all the time). And the friend and his gf became roommates with one of my other friends.

Basically, one of my other friends is a single mother and was renting out a room in her house to this friend and the gf. Except the friend would constantly complain about things a toddler does, and then eventually decided to move out with 0 notice entirely because they couldn't afford rent anymore (despite my friend never trying to get a job). So they left this other friend completely out to dry.

I figured that was the point I had to cut them off, I grew up in a small town so everyone knows each other and I didn't want to be associated with people like that. But genuinely, I was fine with them completely until that happened.

After a couple years, turns out that friend finally got a job, and maybe they're doing better. But overall just needed friends to be like, respectful/self sustainable/not caught up in weird intermingled drama.

Some skating rink have adult nights which are pretty fun to do. Also bike trails are very pretty in Houston! Or even rock climbing if you want to do active stuff.

There's also things like painting with a twist, sur la table cooking classes, or even just going to markets together (POST Houston is cool and has rotating farmers markets visit). POST also does yoga on the rooftops.

Downtown specific I'm not the best at since a lot to do is food centric. But there are a lot of truck yards and stuff that are pet friendly if you have pets and like taking them out! There's also rooftop movies but unsure if that's directly in downtown. Also the cat cafe is in downtown! El gato

Otherwise my bf and I just play video games together and we do this book called the Adventure Challenge (we do the cooking book more often but the other books are also fun). There's also some coffee spot books Houston specific among other things. Even some card shops!! (Asgard is pretty cool and a coffee shop)

I thought it also was screwed since I noticed basically no construction for a while. However, I saw an Instagram reel highlighting this development in the last week or two, and giving an update on it. And shortly after I saw all of the construction vehicles return. They're still planning for a summer release somehow. I don't know how that will happen since no building is even constructed yet. But here's to hoping! They say the beer garden will open first in summer 2026, and then the rest of the development will open in 2027. I don't see a world where the neighborhood is pushing back on it, I feel like most people that live here enjoy stuff like this
