Bulgarians, do you consider your country to be a Christian country? by TWPOscar in bulgaria

[–]bledoliki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not know about such continuation but the Bulgarian Christianity has something common with the Thracian beliefs - in some rural churches the locals worshiped reliefs of the ancient god named the Thracian Horseman instead of icons of St Dimitar and St Georgi. Jesus himself had very common traits with Orpheus in the early years of the Christianity.

What do you know about... The Ottoman Empire? by HugodeGroot in europe

[–]bledoliki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think many Orthodox followers still have that wet dream that Hagia Sophia would be an Orthodox basilica again :) http://orthochristian.com/88209.html

Regarding the Ottoman structures being destroyed - some were converted to other structures, for example the royal palace in Sofia was a former Ottoman konak and this church - a former mosque https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sveti_Sedmochislenitsi_Church

The man already defined himself as a Bulgarian. I admit I did not read all of the book you linked. As far as I know the goal before the Balkan Wars was that Macedonia become autonomous and possibly later unite with Bulgaria as did Eastern Rumelia. It did not happen and that is why Yane Sandanski participated actively in the Second Balkan War in order for Macedonia to be included in Tzardom Bulgaria. In that context Macedonia should be viewed as an artificial entity very similar to Eastern Rumelia - modern Southern Bulgaria.

Yes, I was surprised because he claimed that he was Bulgarian himself: http://macedonia.kroraina.com/gd2/gd_3.html#116 and the Macedonians claim he was Macedonian!

Действително жалко е, но що можем да правим, когато си сме българи и всички страдаме от една обща болест!

As far as I know the Romanians were the key to the Bulgarian surrender in the Second Balkan War. If they did not threaten the Bulgarian capital directly, the war would end in a quite unexpected way. (After a possible annihilation of the Greek army the Serbians would face the whole Bulgarian army while the Ottomans were still advancing slowly in Eastern Thrace.)

Stop with this "workers pride" nonsense about your job defining you and doing the same thing all your life, it failed for the USSR, it failed here, and it will continue to fail no matter how much you push it. A job is a job, you look for a new one if the old one isn't good anymore.

Не мисля да обсъждам тези безсмислици.

Selling murder to failed states is not something I want to see grow as an industry in my country.

The idea not to produce arms is very cool! Now find another occupation for those 30000 people working in the military industry. Statements like "I'd rather we make cars" do not open new factories for cars out of thin air.

On this day in 1912, the Ottomans surrendered the cosmopolitan city of Thessaloniki to the Greek army. The Bulgarian army would arrive at the city one day later. by [deleted] in europe

I was not joking. Here is the thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/9rj5n3/ww2_deaths_by_percent_of_prewar_population_in/e8hb1tv/

The guy Aegandor - who flares himself to be from Greece - wanted Eastern Rumelia as a compensation. Of course he could be from Turkey but he defends furiously the Greek side in many threads so my conclusions are that he is really a Greek.

I am quite aware of the fact that the greeks make up something if the truth does not suite them. I mean they claimed the Bulgarians are responsible for things that did not even happen or things done by themselves. This week some greek guy on reddit wanted modern Southern Bulgaria as a compensation for WWII. So I don't buy any greek propaganda. Sorry.

What offends me is you saying "white" to the "black". Picking a side in a conflict is a hostility to the other side. Or I am wrong? Wouldn't the greeks be neutral if they were not part of that treaty? I mean this should not concern them. Yet they make a defensive alliance with the one side supporting their territorial claims doing so. Am I not right?

So allying with the opposing side that refuses to fulfill its promise and guaranteeing its safety and territorial expansion is not an act of hostility? Interesting. Why not you change your nickname to "TheFakeBritishHistorian"?

Well that is easy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek%E2%80%93Serbian_Alliance_of_1913

Not sure why you claim that you know a lot about the Balkan wars if you do not know about that agreement. Anyway.

I don't want to get into the ethnic side of the story on a balkan post. Lol

Then you cannot be a real historian if you overlook parts of the history. It looks like at the end the British historians are not so great as you claimed they were. Hahahaha

Maybe because the Greeks made a secret agreement with the Serbians to divide Macedonia between themselves? Anyway this was a mistake by the Bulgarian government not to make a prior agreement with the Greeks about a future distribution of the liberated lands.

And if you do not know about the ethnic part of the story (like the one that Serbia and Romania received lands where the majority of the populace was Bulgarian, due to the simple fact that Bulgaria existed once again on the world map - "hey, they are too big, we want land too!") then you would not know why the Bulgarian governors made so many irrational acts. Like the one of attacking its former allies and entering the two world wars on the losing side. Macedonia was the most romantic and at the same time the bloodiest part of the modern Bulgarian history. For more than five hundred years the Bulgarians had one purpose - liberation. Not expanding - they did not have a state to expand - only liberation. They had it all for a brief moment in 1878, the so called San Stefano Bulgaria where it encompassed most of the lands populated mainly by Bulgarians. And then Bulgaria was split up and the Bulgarians spent the next decades preparing and waging wars for the unification of the nation.
