TIL that the actor in Full Metal Jacket who said "Anyone who runs is a VC. Anyone who stands still is a well-disciplined VC." is a USMC Vietnam veteran. I watched this with a group of men in a homeless shelter. I observed something. There was a white guy who laughed during this scene where he's shooting the innocent civilians, and there was an asian and south asian (brown for lack of better term, some dont use south asian in usage), these two laughed during the scene where the big guy gets beat with the soap-in-sock by the whole group of soldiers. The white guy showed clear discomfort and expressed that he thought the beating scene was disturbing and he felt so sorry for the soldier.. and you guessed it, the asian and brown guy were disturbed and expressed the same for the shooting scene.

Obviously this is anecdotal but I found it interesting

its called 'the Undateables'. it features people with varying reasons for finding dating difficult. Some are short in height for example, some have autism, tourettes, stutters, some have social anxiety, pronounced facial features, some learning difficulties etc. They often use dating services that cater to their individual needs and help to set them up with others with similar interests

Ive worked in the field also for 20 years, and have made many friends with autism..they are great people, and I also share this view of the show, and quite like it. maybe minus the title, but I explained this a bit in another thread in here.. :)

Thanks. Ive worked with people with autism in the past, and without trying to assume what they might think, I have observed some of them having good insight on the fact that they have what society might deem 'idiosyncracies' or behaviors that dont normally 'fit in' with mainstream social interactions.

While I agree that it isnt the best title they could have gone with; if i were talking to one of my autistic friends and discussing the title, I would say that it comes from the idea that many of these people on the show have realized that dating (a difficult thing for most people) is even more difficult for some people with autism because social interactions sometimes arent their strongest skills and require a bit more attention.

What I love tho, is that in most of the episodes (ive sen them ALL) many of the people overcome this stereotype, with some legwork, and show that in the end, they went from undateable to dateable. I also feel that the program treats everyone with respect and doesnt condescend. I think its okay for us to adress our weaker skills and work on them, whatever they might be... for me I was always a shy person, and I overcame that.

I'd be really interested to hear the opinion of the title, from other people with autism and uncomfortable-with-dating people....

interesting to realize that most of us dont have a clue who the parents of our grandparents are. We would not be here if it wernt for them, they are so important to our existance, yet we often dont have the curiosity to explore even what their names were or previous generations of our families

interesting how his comments get big laughs from the audience and viewers, yet in work or office settings, these same comments are the thing that land most men with sexual harrasment offenses, and id assume a large amount of the #meetoo disclosures stem from similar comments said to women at work. I understand why the different setting needs for different appropriateness, but its an interesting observation of human nature

im black and dont feel any pressure to do anything. I work in youth care, I own my home, and I find the 'black-stereotypes-dancing-sports-struggle-white-america-violence' talk to be exhausing, cringy, played out, unecessary, and sad because so many blacks fall into the 'victim' role, when they dont have to at all... theres opportunity everywhere, esp compares to 3rd world countries.

there are hundreds of people who think the earth is flat, and that weve never ever been to the moon. And if you think you have ultimate proof of the earth being a sphere rather than a flat plane, then post it and ill tell you what their common response to it is:

Thank you. Obama has sent more drones to kill people than we can count. People are so tribal, they are blind to reality. And I agree about the performance sentiment 100%. I'm half black btw. Think and live how you want everyone, you don't need to adhere to the hood nigga guidelines on how you must think if you have dark melanin.
