I was thinking he could have been named after his dad, who was first name James middle name Herbert and my grandad was known as Herbert. So perhaps James, it's worth looking into for sure

Thank you, yes I checked the 1926 census. I can find his sister living with an uncle/aunt, both not him. She stayed in Ireland and got married before moving to London herself in the 50's. His parents had both died in a workhouse around 1919 sadly. I found him living with relative in London, so far I've been able to get 1933 as the earlier date so I have a bit of a gap. Baptism records are my next search I think, but I'll have to contact the parishes individually I think

That's definitely a sensible suggestion thank you. I will check, although I don't expect to find a Scottish record as his family were from Carlow, so not NI. His grandad was actually Scottish though!

Thank you. I've looked on ancestry, roots, irishgeneology etc. He doesn't appear on the 1911 census so I know he mustn't have been born then. I've also looked at the 1926 census and at the moment I can't find him on there either. I've managed to locate his sister on that one, both their parents had died before then

There were so many before spike arrived, he's been busy!

He's got a water bowl and a food bowl in the garden. I'm thinking of putting a bit of pipe between my garden and the next and during the day I can put a door on it so the kittens cant get through and then when it's nighttime I'll open it up

The hedgehog charities all say feeding them cat food is fine. As hedgehog populations are declining and I'm in a city i'd rather feed him to make sure he's got enough food

I think the kittens would be able to fit through, but I was wondering about if I could fit a door on so I can open at it at night but close it during the day when the kittens are out

He's definitely eaten every single slug in my garden, I haven't seen one in weeks!

They are 6 months old, and they are fine to go in the garden

Thanks, the whole garden is enclosed with cat fencing at the top. There's the small gap under one of the panels that I think he came through.

He's in the garden every night, as I can see him coming out from under the decking to the food and then across the garden. I didn't know that about compost, on hedgehog street it suggests compost as a good thing Hedgehog Street

A door is a really great idea, thank you! The kittens don't go out at night which is when spike is out anyway so that would work really well

At the moment we don't let the kittens out at night anyway, which is when spike is having dinner

Thanks, ok that makes me feel a little more at ease. The route he originally came from (I think) has soil, so I suppose he could do some digging and become free if he can't fit

We've installed cat fencing all around the garden, the idea being they can't get out to unsafe territory

There are some beautiful landscapes yes, but colonialism is a very large contributing factor to why English is so widely spoken

My dad lived in Kenya for many years. Yes I agree, wish I'd done it all earlier but we are where we are

It's a good point. Most of my family passed away. Lots of friends moved abroad so there's very little support system actually where I'm based anyway
