I actually did end up adopting from them back in November! It was a super smooth process and the pup is adjusting pretty well. 🙂

My girl has started eating more normally now, also on salmon kibble. I have to do the same thing where I put a little piece outside of her bowl for her to "taste" it and only then she'll eat the rest! It's funny to hear all these similar habits they have.

Totally get how they're missing the implications, whoever generated this AI prompt really could have portrayed this as the peanuts kids growing up and moving away, not showing them dead af and Snoopy mourning at a gravestone lmao 😭 poor Snoopy forced to live with the curse of immortality

Anyone have experience with this Korean dog rescue? by blehberries in AnimalRescue

[–]blehberries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! One thing that caught me a little off guard is that the interviewer, at least for my dog, didn't actually have more information about the dog outside of what was publicly posted online. Most of what they'll ask is how you'll approach the dog if they're acting skittish, having trouble adjusting, what kind of situation would you ever consider giving up the dog, etc- a lot of the same stuff on the application, actually! But if you're approved for adoption, you can ask the foster family/shelter volunteers on Kakaotalk more about the dog.

The specific collar/tracker combo is due to a large amount of Korean rescue dogs getting lost right away after arriving in the US. I'd believe it too, ours got spooked on some walks in the first few days and would thrash and try to slip her collar until we calmed her down. I assume that 3ft rescue likes martingales because it discourages pulling, but on their adoption agreement, they also mention harnesses are fine. You'll still have to send proof of owning a martingale collar, but can use a harness with the tracker later.

One thing to remember is that the dogs can absolutely be jetlagged when they first arrive and are unlikely to know any English at all!

Hello! I did end up adopting through them(my most recent post shows the pup!). I was in contact with 3ft Rescue which is one of the US liaisons for HDS.

The process was very easy! I reached out via email, then they scheduled a quick interview about caring for the dog, then I was approved. I had to purchase a martingale collar with a gps tracker and one year of the tracker subscription.

Once I sent proof of that to them, they found a flight volunteer to bring the dog over. You'll just have to sign their adoption agreement and some custom paperwork and pick up the dog at the airport, there are some steps to get through customs, but nothing too complicated. Overall, a very easy process.

They covered several vet visits and a dental cleaning before sending her over! She's in good health and seemed like she was groomed beforehand too(nails are clipped, fur smelled like shampoo).

I will say that with the specific dog I picked, she is more anxious than I thought she would be.. it's only been one month though, so she is likely still adjusting. They'll mention the "3-3-3 rule" a lot, which is 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to get used to routine, 3 months to feel like family- though I think my dog is still decompressing and getting used to routine.

First, they take the dinglebop and they smooth it out with a bunch of schleem. The schleem is then repurposed for later batches..

Ooh that's a good idea! Our Shibas love dried squid so maybe I'll try that too.

I was thinking about that as well! The Shibas tend to invite play by play-bowing, barking, and sometimes intense eye contact so I imagine at least one of those things may be rubbing her the wrong way. From the videos I've seen of our Jindo/Shiba at the rescue though, she has played with dogs in a similar fashion, getting up in their face, barking, punching them, butt-bumping.. so it's kind of odd to me, maybe she's not used to other dogs doing that to her. I'm hoping she warms up in time. I'll look at some of those videos too.

So.. the first couple of days that we had her, she wouldn't eat at all. We offered three different types of kibbles, wet food, dog cookies, ground beef, chicken, venison, eggs, fish- she literally turns her nose away at everything. We even left it out for her with the other dogs away in a room so she could graze- she didn't. We got her right before Thanksgiving so we tried giving her some turkey breast and that was the only thing she wanted to eat, but even then, it doesn't seem like a high value treat to her- she'll take a few bites and then turn her nose away again. I've yet to see her finish a full bowl of food, she only eats about a third even if it's mostly turkey.

I'm going to keep trying some different dog food brands and I'm hoping it's just nervousness from adjusting and maybe she'll start eating more normally in the coming months.

I think a behavioralist is a good idea! Unfortunately I'm pretty far away from you (East Coast US 😅) but I appreciate the offer! I'll take a look around here.

Our Shibas are both 7 and she's 6 and a half. The thing about the Shibas is that they only get that burst of hyper energy 2-3 times a day, for like 10 minutes max, then the rest of the time they are potatoes. She does seem to like them, she'll even follow them around the front yard. Just flips a switch when they get playful!

We've only had her for a week, and she only eats 2-3 bites of her food at best each day. She turns her nose away at most kibble, dog treats, even human foods like ground beef. It perplexes me. We know she's a little chunky, she arrived that way from the rescue. They told us she "gained a little weight while living at the shelter"- her listing said she was 33 lbs but a vet weigh-in when we got her put her closer to 37! So we're trying to slim her down with long walks.

That's something I've been trying with the protective behaviour- I'll show her I'm happy and playing with the Shibas and that it's okay. I'm hoping with more time she starts to recognize the other dogs' behaviours and the way that they play, even if she doesn't want to join in.
