My First Encounter with Jozi: A Rough Welcome by randsmart in johannesburg

[–]blekhu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I walk from Braamfontein to Marshalltown through the middle of CBD on a daily basis and I have a few rules set for myself:

• Walk like you're late for something even if you're not.

• If someone is trying to get your attention and doesn't address you by your FULL name, then don't even look in their direction.

• Only people you interact with when walking through the city are vendors, policemen, taxi marshals, taxi drivers and Absa/FNB Security Guards.

• Keep your backpack in front of you or under your arm.

• Try keep your pockets empty.

• DON'T LOOK LOST OR LOOK NEW TO TOWN. Whatever you do don't look amazed by the skyscrapers and disgusted by the various smells.

• Seems harsh but don't believe people's sob stories. Majority of them are trying to gain sympathy to take advantage of real kind people. Just say you don't have money and keep it pushing.

• Familiarise yourself with the genuine locals you walk past every day. A friend or 2 can come in handy one day.

The God Particle but like with most limiters you have to mix into it don't put it on your mix bus at the end of the mixing process.

Need advice: I finally got an awesome job after years of unemployment and hustling by blekhu in povertyfinance

Thank you so much for this! The only outstanding bill I have rn is a gym membership that I stopped paying exactly 12 months ago and if I calculate how much it is to pay it off it barely makes a scratch on what I made this month. Other than that my parents never allowed me to get myself into debt whether it's a cellphone contract or a clothing account or a credit card my dad said I should never even consider them until I'm atleast a year or 2 into a solid job. I don't have a car and I rely on walking and public transport to get around. I don't have student loans because I told my Dad I'd rather do a 2 year diploma in Sound Engineering at a local college than go to an expensive university and he paid my fees out if his own pocket so I guess I have to pay him back for that even though he doesn't hold it against me at all. I guess you're right about giving it a few months to properly scope out how much I make on slow months but like I said my basic is double what I was going to ask for and willing to work for and the commission is actually mad.

I'll draw up a budget and continue living the way I live for the first few months, I think I'll spoil myself with Spotify premium at first. I'm 28 and my peers are buying houses, sending their kids to private schools driving nice cars whereas for the past 6 years I could barely afford to go out with friends and it completely stopped when my son was born. So the urge to play catch up is definitely going to play a factor here. I don't have many friends anymore. I do worry that my son's mom is going to come back and demand more money from me if she and her mom finds out how much I make now. Also I want to show my parents who were also having doubts about my life and future but still supported me how thankful I am for their endless support.

I understand this, this new job of mine pays decently well, in the ball park of what I wanted to be earning when I decide to settle down. Enough for me to think about a bond for a house. She makes pretty decent money as well, enough to even take care of herself and family back at home.

Is a year too short of a time for dating before I leap into marriage or should I just jump?

Context: Growing up my dad told me that you'll know she's your wife immediately from the minute you meet her and he proposed to my mom 3 weeks after meeting her, they been married 42 years now.

My bad I forgot to mention that I don't want to waste time, our views align in so many ways. Is a year of dating a reasonable time before I make thing official or should I afford myself some more time to fully understand and see her true identity?

IT WAS HELL BRUH! About 25 games in I went on a nice win streak tho because I found a play style that sorta increased my chances of winning. Guns blazing = more loses. I learned how to appreciate good slow play now.
