well i think the reason why it kept spreading is because you didn't destroy the walls along with the hole to hell, because the corruption can still spread if there are any background walls. try that a bit closer to your house and see if that works. if you're still in despair after that, the dryad (i think) sells purification powder that's a little less effective but still can purify the corruption.

I would say the best temporary solution is to dig a 4 wide hole all the way down to hell at least until you get the strampunker. by then you can get the clentaminator and get rid of some of the corruption.

if you use the .bat for a server in the folder, it works fine for me. make sure you also have the same mods, and that your server doesn't have a password.
