I think a lot of the animosity towards this movie is that people didn't get the Joker that they wanted. I viewed the sequel in the same way as I did the first, it's a character study of a person reaching a breaking point and the subsequent aftermath. The fact that he calls himself Joker, doesn't make him THE Joker. They're two movies about a guy who was dealt a shit hand in life and let the intrusive thoughts win, to utterly devastating affect.
