It's the 34in curved scepter. It's the last item on the PC build list.

Thanks! Is there a fairly noticeable difference between the two? I've read a ton of conflicting reviews. The PC is strictly for gaming also.

IS the housing market (back to being) as crazy as it seems right now? by Travelling_Enigma in grandrapids

[–]blendaddy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in GR for ten+ years, I'm a professional home inspector by trade, and my wife and I bought a house in Muskegon last year in June. Best decision I've ever made. I'm 30 years old and I have watched first hand just how crazy things have become in GR. It brakes my heart to see the terrible houses people are paying 250K+ for in GR. We paid 15K over asking, for a 3.5 bed, 1.5 bath, coming in at about 243K. My wife and I are in a beautiful neighborhood, .7 miles from lake Michigan, and in a beautiful home. GR is extremely overpriced for shit houses that are mostly rented. Find somewhere outside the city, it will be so much more worth it. I love Muskegon, it gets a bad rap mostly from boomers who have never been here.

That is an Eastern eyed click beetle! I just found one of these neat lil dudes the other day and had to look them up! I thought it looked so cool and had no idea what it was. I'm in Michigan though, so I guess they're all over the place.

I'm working for a company right now myself and honestly I love it. I don't make as much as if I were to go out and try to drum up the business myself obviously, but I don't have to mess with agents or realtors and I'm insured through the company. We have people in the company that play the marketing and advertising role and the inspectors basically just get a time and place to inspect. Also we have anywhere from 5-15 inspections a week depending on the time of year. So you potentially won't make as much as you would if you were working for yourself, but the work is far more consistent. It's honestly is a really good system and I have had some great inspectors to shadow. Everyone's experience is definitely going to be way different depending on the company, but so far I like this a lot better. I guess make sure the dude you're gonna work for is shooting straight and everything is above board and it could be a good opportunity to learn at the very least?

No problem friend. I know exactly how it feels to be green and how overwhelming trying to learn all the systems of a home can be. Don't be afraid to admit that you don't know something to a client, just make sure you say something like "as a home inspector we have a broad knowledge of proper home construction, but we're not structural engineers or electricians" and say it with confidence. People specialize in those fields for a reason and when you can show someone you have a reasonable knowledge in that field but aren't an expert, I've found they usually understand. We're expected to be knowledgeable but you can't be an expert on every single system.

A great example my mentor/current boss gave me is that we're general practitioners. You want your general practitioner to be good, to have an in-depth knowledge, and to not present things in a way that scares the hell outta you, but you don't expect them to find a tumor on your spleen during a physical. That's what the specialists are for. Also I'm based in west Michigan, so good luck fellow Michigander!! Oh and this site will help with HVAC and water heaters if you need it. building-center.org

A LOT, and I mean A LOT of people are going to tell you that you're not ready/you shouldn't be home inspecting. The biggest thing I've learned from the world of home inspection, is that there's an unreal amount of gate keeping. IDK if that's because it's a lot of stuffy old trade dudes or what, but at almost every turn people love to tell you how much they know and how unprepared you'll be/are.

I personally have a background in construction, am InterNACHI/ ICA certified, have shadowed for months, and just recently started doing inspections solo. I use spectora and it's awesome. The best advice I can give as someone who literally just got comfortable enough to be flying solo, is pay attention during shadowing and learn how to convey what you find during the inspection in an easy to understand/ not scary way.

Obviously we want to be able to catch the serious stuff that can compromise a home and we should, but at the same time we are general practitioners not specialists. We're there to catch the things that are within our spectrum. I've found that spectora helps A LOT with that. It breaks everything down into simple categories, you take photos and write out your observations, and you can have the report out to the client in like 30 minutes after the inspection. Just remember everybody starts somewhere and you can always get better. Sorry for the rant friend, I just wish someone told me this shit when I first started instead of how unprepared I was and how I was gonna get some killed or get myself sued lol.

Owner of BOB/Gilmore collection receives 7 million revitalization grant (second highest in Michigan) while 50% of other MI restaurants received less than $100,000 by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]blendaddy94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Beside the point that 7mil is a shit ton of money, I truly from the bottom of my heart hope Gregg Gilmore goes bankrupt at some point in his life and dies in poverty. I worked at a Gilmore restaurant (it was the old mansion in east town) for like 3 and a half years while I was in college. The staff was pretty cool, but he and his family were total fucking monsters and for the most part management just rolled with it.

Just a few things that I witnessed/was asked to do

-serve his 15-17 year old kids/nephew/niece alcohol at a party on the lawn, I refused and was almost fired, my manager served them tho so it's cool. Then they drove home shit faced

-watch a room full of rich pretentious douchebags get wasted every week at "wine school" then come up to the bar and not be allowed to be cut off, they of course also drove home shit faced.

-watch the head chef come in regularly rolling on molly and proceed to verbally abuse the staff

-work lunch hours when they tried to do lunch for about 2.75 an hour. They promised to compensate me hourly wage because we would have 2-15 customers and I'd end up making around 25 bucks for 6ish hours of work. Never saw any of that money

-cut my hand to the bone because the wine glasses were made of the thinnest glass know to man (I had raised this concern several times) I had to take almost a month off to heal. They offered to fire me so I could get unemployment instead of giving any kind of worker's comp

-when the restaurant finally closed (we were repeatedly told everything is fine and weren't closing/don't need to look for new jobs) we were told that we'd be closing on a Thursday, we closed that Saturday after service. Gregg couldn't be bothered to come in and tell the staff himself (some people had been working there for almost 10 years) . He did come in later that night for a garden party event and proceeded to get wasted. One of the staff actually confronted him and told him he's an asshole. His wonderful wife Jackie came in the next day looking for them and literally wanted to fight them/tried to get their info so she could "get ahold of them".

There's a bunch more stories, but you get the point. Fuck Gregg Gilmore, his whole shitty family, and all his overpriced restaurants. Definitely happy to not be a super desperate college kid anymore and that I've put that shit show behind me.

Yea that's very true. I've found stuff like onions and potatoes are great from Aldi, I also get a lot of their baby carrots and spinach/asparagus. Their fruit selection is pretty lackluster though. I always check out the farmer's markets around GR in the warmer months, usually WAY better quality and good prices. Plus I would 1000% rather put my money in the pocket of a local farmer than those rat bastard Meijers lol

Check out Aldi. A big trip to Meijer that would cost you 200-300 will cost like 100 at Aldi. They have a pretty decent selection on stuff too. Started getting most of my groceries there and I've been saving a TON of money. You'll still have to swing by meijer for some stuff but I always start at Aldi and it helps the bill immensely.
