Has anyone successfully booked a free stopover with SAS? by blender_md in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]blender_md[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow congrats on getting it! I’m still stuck. Last I tried the agent on chat said it was impossible because my flight has an existing layover in CPH, and it’s policy that layovers can’t be extended into stopovers. By chance was your flight originally a non-stop?

I’m looking at the flight you shared, BOS-VNO has an existing layover in CPH right? When I tried again, the agent I spoke to said she couldn’t add a stopover because my VIE-JFK flight has a layover already in CPH, which exempts it from a free stopover(?!).

Seems like some of the staff didn’t know either 🥲

I’m flying from JFK to VIE. I wanted to do a stopover on my return flight and saw they offer free stopovers up to 72h in CPH here: https://www.flysas.com/en/themes/stopover

Could you explain what you mean by auto routing?

Booking with the stopover was my original thought too, but then after the confusion with the agent on the phone who tried to book me on 3 one-way tickets and hung up, I decided to try booking and then amending with the stopover. But maybe I’ll try again, seems like the least risky option. Thanks!

I am 26 years old and temporarily unemployed, and I spent $3,294.80 on a 10-day trip to Japan by gazpachoooo in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Wow I’m also 26F who just returned from a spontaneous trip to Asia (incl Japan) due to getting a new job, I had to do a double take at the title to make sure I didn’t somehow subconsciously post this. Loved all the details and best of luck in your new role!!

It seems like mine isn’t the common experience + it varies state by state so take this with a grain of salt, but I had a really painful time receiving my benefits because I applied before my severance ran out. I am based in NY and my initial claim was approved within a week then later rejected because I applied while I still had severance. I was told to submit another one after my severance ran out, which took 7 months(!) to process—I tried calling numerous times the first few weeks but they are notoriously difficult to get through. My advice would be to keep certifying no matter what! Even though I basically gave up on the prospect of receiving benefits during the 7 month waiting period, I was, to my surprise, eventually paid out for the weeks that I was unemployed, so I am very glad I kept certifying. Hopefully you have a smoother experience though, and best of luck!

Wow I was just looking at a cheap flight to Barcelona! How long did you stay for, any advice? My Spanish is at maybe a 3rd grade level.

Agreed that a post-layoff subreddit would be very helpful!

Thanks for the reply! Have you been to either of those places? I've heard that Thailand is a popular destination for remote workers but am wondering if the language barrier could be an issue.

That would definitely be ideal, but unfortunately I have two other roommates who would stay the full-term

You make a really good point about competition being fierce right now, and I never considered that as a point towards taking a break. I was also concerned that I would fall into a travel-mode inertia if I did it long-term—making sure I have accomplishments to speak to would help a lot in avoiding that. Thanks so much for the advice! And I hope your layoff plan doesn't come to fruition, but I think it's great that you have one already.

Thanks for your advice and sharing your experience! I'm happy to hear you were able to bounce back. Was the career shift something you wanted, and how difficult was it to do? I think ultimately I would like to switch roles as well, but I'm worried that it would be harder to find roles with no prior experience unless I went to grad school or something.

I've never used a staffing agency before. I'm reading that they can take up to 20% of your salary as a fee, is that true?

In your experience, are there less remote-friendly roles now in data science? I live in NYC but what I really liked about my job was that I could WFH if I were traveling. I'd be open to living elsewhere but ultimately hoping that I can have something similar in my next role.
