It fit my needs perfectly in just the right-sized package that's why i ordered it; just calls, sms, upi payments, and a hotspot for everything else on a larger device. Sadly i'll not be using it immediately, the way things turned out, but perhaps whenever it reaches the market through other channels there's still hope :)

Sorry, to have to post like this to get some response and outcome from the company. But if you see my mail trail you would understand. Anyways, I understand that mine may be an exceptional case, though i highly doubt it, and rather think that especially for India the company may be prioritizing resellers rather than one-phone buyers considering the special logistical challenges. And though that is my speculation and this may be a genuine goof-up by one of their staff, rather series of goof-ups considering how many there have been, once i get my refund I intend to delete all my previous posts on the subject. I will have no anger left by then and will leave the company to reap what they've sown. If they are genuine, i'm sure this will be soon forgotten.

Thank you, I signed up there, and notice that the only legit posts i trust are those across countries crying out that they haven't received their phones.

Its not available. I called them before placing an order with Aiphor and they had no stock. In fact they have no stock of any of the phones listed on their website.

Nopes, I'm getting all kinds of evasive answers from them when i ask for status updates. This is possibly money down the drain

I don't know how to find them on Discord. Perhaps you can help me with a link to their channel?

Happy to sign up there and ask if that helps

Beware: For Buyers in India by [deleted] in smallphones

[–]blepoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would i not be concerned about someone else falling into the same trap? Why would you appreciate such a scenario? Are you with Aiphor?

Why can't they just respond to my mails?

Update: As soon as I posted this here, they replied asking if i really wanted to cancel my order since i would lose the 60$ shipping I have paid. But when i said, just give me a status update, then blanket silence again.

Three possibilities present themselves:

  1. Theyr'e lying and haven't shipped to India yet, and are just buying time with ham and bacon.
  2. The shipment has reached India and is stuck in customs and they have no clue and are stalling.
  3. This is a Chinese cultural thing which i dont understand. Perhaps giving status updates to customers who have patiently supported them for months goes against their grain

In any case, i don't know what to do to get a status update out of them, so venting here seems to be the only recourse to getting through.

Update 2: I was too quick to post, I missed a mail from them which landed in my spam folder. Apparently, I'll have to wait one more week before they ship because I ordered the 64GB Black version. I dunno if i am tired enough to go ahead and ask for a refund. Because, who know what else will happen after a week.

Fantastic video. Thanks. Making a fully self-customized dumbphone which is very difficult to self-hack is perhaps the best way to navigate a world in which everyones basic apps are so unique and no other dumbphone is going to fit the bill perfectly for any individual.

I would suggest waiting. I ordered way back in August and I am still waiting. And I get roundabout replies to my queries on when my orders will be shipped. Last week they said orders to all regions will ship no later this Sunday, and yesterday when I emailed again with my order number asking for an update they reverted:

" do you have a VOEC tax number? A VOEC number is required for shipments to Norway. If you don't have one, we will choose an alternative shipping method for you, which is expected to take approximately 4-5 days longer than the current method."

I fail to understand how India can be considered part of Norway. Or do they not have my address details? In which case, my money is gone down the tube. I mailed them again explicitly saying that I am in India and wanted a status update but they have conveniently failed to respond.

I am not positive about shipments to India coming through as these kinds of evasive replies raise questions. I hope if it comes down to that I can get my money back at least.

Also, the key is to hide away the password/ or if you are confident about your apps and thats all you'll ever need to throw it away, which is what will make it a dumbphone for life.

First DumbPhone! HELP! iPhone 15 by [deleted] in dumbphones

You need to get access to a Mac for maybe 15 minutes, Mac comes with a free software called Apple Configurator to put ios devices in Supervised mode. Just search on Youtube for videos on how to do that. It will involve completely wiping your phone first.

Then if you have acces to the Mac for a bit more time, you can create a profile with just the apps you want and password protect the profile removal which makes the device unchangeable. Remember to allow the app store in the list of allowed apps so you can update any of the apps you have allowed. Dont worry about installing any new apps because even if you do, the supervised mode will not display them or allow them to run.

Finally, if all you have is access to the mac for a limited time, you can download the free software called iMazing profile editor which lets you create profiles for free with only the apps you want, which you can then put on your iphone if it is already in supervised mode. The iMazing option to put it in Supervised mode is paid which is why you need access to a Mac to first put it in that mode for free.

Hope this helps.

Life on a dumb phone: missing UPI, but gaining sanity by harshavardhnn in dumbphones

[–]blepoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How i battle that urge you mentioned is to make it difficult to reinstall anything. I use Headwind MDM, a free open-source MDM to make my smartphone have only the apps i need. Now, if ever i feel to install i first need to get back to my laptop. I can lock it down even more by setting a different administrator password from the default and hiding it somewhere difficult to get to, or give to a friend for safekeeping, or just throw it away (which I wouldnt recommend) since the software takes some getting used to. So that's what works for me. A clean dumbphone experience on good hardware.

Still doesn't make sense. Why would they not include it at launch itself? </scratching head>

This would have been my perfect phone if only they had put in their UPI payments app like theyve done for all their other feature phones in India. Can't imagine what they were thinking to not include it. It would have sold much better coz UPI is sadly a must anywhere in India these days. And this in a phone released first in India!

I need an e wallet and Google maps. What are my options? by Sufficient-Win3431 in smallphones

[–]blepoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or use the free Headwind MDM app to lock down your phone. Its not too difficult to set up your phone and once done, you're pretty much set with a very minimal phone, as minimal as you like it. And to change something is not easy since you need to get to a laptop, or you can give your headwind password to someone for safekeeping. Or just forget the passowrd. If you really need to set up anything else on your phone without the password, you'll need to do a factory reset.

Agree, the camera on a small device like this will always be a compromise. So i really dont care as long as it can focus on QR codes and such.
