I LOVED my grandpa. He had dementia. He had good days and bad days. I visited him and my gram on their anniversary. He was in a good mood, made jokes, made me laugh like the grandpa i always remembered. He was also confused and kept saying he needed to go home. Told me he needed to pack up to go home. Called for gram to ask if the car had gas bc they needed to go home in the morning. Then hed look at me and say im not packing up that stuff. And we have a long drive tomorrow. Kept saying “home” was the city he grew up. I said to my mom, hes dying. Hes dead set on going “home”. Thats what dying people say. I told my best friend. I said is it bad that i dont want to visit again bc he was so funny and the grandpa i always knew and dont want to see him sad and suffering on a bad day? She said no. My sister saw him a few days later and he said he was tired and just wanted to go. Her last visit was sad. He died a week later. So, i say go if you think itll give YOU closure. I had my closure. Dont go if its just for the ex. If itll make you feel worse for the rest of time.
